    Default So I bought a bus : T6 Crew Cab 4Motion

The only bus I have ever owned was a 1978 Bay which I restored a few years ago. This is a little different.
The idea about the bus is to mostly collect guests from Airports and hotels in and around JHB but it will also see some light trips to places like the Cape, Kruger, Drakensburg etc. It will also play a supporting role to my NPO "Chasing Smiles".

This may sound strange but it has to fit the profile pf OWB 4x4 Rentals so we will be doing a bunch of upgrades to it.

    - First up, is it is currently at Eezi Awn fitting a rear ladder, and roof rack. Im still deciding on the awning.

    - I also am very undecided about what size tyres to fit. I am very keen to build something a little different for fun that may get some attention. Something between a bus with 20inch wheels and lowered with air ride suspension and a swamper.

    - I will also be doing a bunch of sound deadening also.

    - And I have ordered a snorkel and wheel arch kit. Hope it arrives....fingers are crossed.

    Nice one Bruce

Enjoy the new build. I will be keeping an eye on your posts.

I think you might have spotted my build thread of my bus, Shrek, but if not here is the link.

    https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...porter-4motion

I see you are getting snorkel and wheel arch kit. That will already make a massive change on the looks of the bus.

If you are changing rims just be carefull to get rims that can handle the load rating of the bus. It is a heavy vehicle that is licenced to carry big loads as well, and not a lot of rims carry the required load ratings. Delta 4x4 makes some nice examples, but as far as I know are not readily available in SA.

    https://delta4x4.com/products/wheels/?lang=en

Also remember that if you change to a more AT type tyre that it willbe in a slightly higher size profile, which will lead to issues in the spare wheel well to fit the bigger tyre. The standard jack will also need to be changed as it will not lift the rear wheels high enough. Std bottle jacks will also not fit. Bakkie/Kombi Taxi mechanical jack is a good option.

First accesories for me would be, Tyres, Front Bashplate, Build in tyre compressor, new jack

Ive started with a few small add ons to the Kombi. This week I fitted an awning and ladder at Eezi Awn. Really liked that the ladder is removable and no holes need to be drilled to fit it. Absolutely love their products.

I also ordered some wheel arches and snorkel which have arrived. Snorkel will be fitted soon.

This weekend I will be fitting all the sound deadening to the rear.

I am still also a little un decided what to do about the wheels and tyres. Any suggestions?

Awesome!!!! May you have many blessed miles!

Question though, where did you get the wheel arch kit

And I guess it works with two sliding doors?

    Thank you.

I ordered the wheel arch kit off of eBay and fitted them myself. Very easy to do. They work with both sliding doors.

If I recall correctly they were about US$90 IIRC

this weekend I fitted two layers of sound deadening to the rear of the van. One is a 2mm foil coated with a "rubber" type layer and the other is a 8mm (iirc) self adhesive foam.

Honestly I cant say it made much difference when driving, possibly because I still need to do the doors and wheel arches but you can definitely tell the difference when you knock on the panels. More of a thud type sound.

Perhaps there will be more difference noticed when the carpeting is done

I also forgot to take pictures so appologies for that.

Off the topic but something I found on a site about AWD

Obviously 4WD will do better than AWD in off road conditions
Obviously AWD will do better than RWD in off road conditions
And both will do better than RWD on slick surface on-pavement conditions
AWD will do better than 4WD to keep you on the road
4WD will do better to get you out of the ditch though.

    Moral of the story
If you have AWD you may never need 4WD to get out of the ditch

I think I have proved on many occasions, especially in sand where my 4 motion Transporter out performed real pukka 4wd vehicles , and it driveabilty on unpaved roads is also great
