    Default Mitsubishi l200 gearbox woes

    Good morning
I hope some of you clever oaks can give me some advice.
My 2007 4x4 2.5did started to slip out of first gear about a week ago. Feels like it only engages 5mm( not far enough in gear)
So I haven't really used my first gear the last week.
It gets worse......this morning it started to engage difficult in 3rd gear and gets kind of stuck in reverse.
Also with the bakkie in neutral releasing clutch pedal there is load on the rear driveshaft which was not there before.
Clutch is fine, all gear oil levels are fine.
I am planning on dropping the box tonight and open tomorrow.

My question is..... Am I missing something I can look at before dropping gearbox.
Also what to look out for once I open the box

Any chance there's something interfering with the gear lever? Or broken engine/gearbox mounts causing movement that shouldn't be there?

It sounds like a selector problem, to me.

I have taken the gear levers out to see if there is any kind of obstruction, but all is fine

Hopefully it is just a sleeve or bearing that's worn and having play on it

I have also checked all mountings on gearbox and engine, they're all fine

    Maybe this can help.

My son had a similar problem with his Colt bakkie about a month ago. The culprit was a broken spring on a selector detent ball. You can take it out from inside the cab. Maybe a have look. You may be lucky!

Thank you Francois, I will have a look at that, but I don think there is enough space to look at that from inside the cab. So I will have to remove the box and take it from there. I think I will check all the bearings and change the oil seals as well while I've got it down

    Latest update on the gearbox.
So after replacing the bearing, which is the one just behind 1st gear and not input shaft.
Assembled all completely. Just before installing back in my bakkie, I tested everything to be sure.............1st gear did not feel right, so after a lot of I stripped everything apart again and found that the sleeve on the 1st gear syncro is broken . Now I've decided to take the complete stripped box to Mayfair in Brackenfell.
At least the lobour charge will be considerably less lol
