Yes, we have.
If my kids were with me, I might have been in for a rough time. To me, stranded is stranded. I don't care about the timeline.
Can the cruiser do the same. Absolutely. But the probability of that happening is minuscule. In my mind, it is 0% vs. 100%, because it was a reality.

Good luck Nys, glad you found "Peace of mind".
May I say - you must be a person with a-lot of influence and or money - why else would anybody take back a well used vehicle with a minor glitch.
Nevertheless, with all due respect, I was expecting something like this.

I've just read this thread for the 1st time - and am absolutely gob-smacked at how invested/hell bent people can be on sticking to/believing in their own opinion about the reason for others' choices and/or actions!!

Yes, but I think having to pull over to change a wheel is a bit different to sitting on the side of the road with your sub 10k km R1m plus vehicle not sure if it’s going to start again. Or like the guy from the Free State, sitting there waiting in 30k km bakkie to be recovered.
Punctures are part of motoring, breaking down in a new vehicle shouldn’t be part of motoring in this day and age. Not in my book.

I'll try and answer this in tire terms since you are trying to compare apples with cricket balls here...
In Nys's case... Imagine you get a flat tire for no apparent reason. No puncture or de-beading. When you try and inflate it, it just stays flat... Then all of a sudden it just fixes itself without any indication of what was wrong or what caused it. Back at 2.4 bar without any signs of a leak... Now you need to travel again not knowing if it will do the same again.
But since you spent quite a lot on a premium brand of tires, you decide to take it back to the tire dealer. They tell you that they are actually not sure and they can see that something is wrong, but that tire people from a sister brand in South Africa will need to look at the tire fault codes, cause the tire dealership that sold you the tires and should look after it actually don't understand the fault codes or what is really causing this sudden deflation without warning. To add insult to injury they inform you that even if their best guess is correct, they don't have the required parts to fix it. They tell you to go back onto the road without any guarantee that that the tires will not do this again. Especially with some trips planned with a young family into remote areas.

Exactly.
But for some people denial is a river on the other end of Africa.
Some brands are more prone to give you ####. If you know that and still use / support such a brand - good for you. You will not find me rubbing your nose in it. Its your hard-earned tom, your choice, your life. Knock yourself out. But to frown on other people who says "had enough, cheers", is epically stupid.

Just FYi,
Just saw on Facebook another one with same problem. Also told to just drive it while we wait for parts

I am.not gone defend the new amarok or bash it, i bought it as i have driven amaroks since 2011, i like the look and i wanted a V6 again with low range.
I am hapoy so far and are on my way from windhoek to cape town, and will see how the bakkie perform. Yes all amarok owners would liked a VAG V6 in there, with low range and the ZF box, well me at lrast, so i will sell it if it give me #### and will keep it if not. Only time will tell and so far i dont have any mechanical issues, given early days. But ja not lekke to see these issues pop up.
Each to his own opinoins and enjoy what makes u happy and in which u feel safe.
