Default Ford LION V6 disappoints...again (not the crank this time)

So..... a good customer and friend in a big Eastern Freestate town sent me a whatsapp last night. His Amafordrok left him stranded yesterday about 280 km from home. The LION V6 had a major mechanical failure on the right bank timing pulley. Engine FUBAR (needs to be replaced according to Ford). Vehicle on 30 000 km. Needles to say he is not impressed. I asked him one question, do you miss your old V6 (the original one with VW DNA)? He replied with a huge thumbs up. It turns out this is not an isolated incident. Apparently the third one in SA. The other two were Ford Rangers. Apparently also failures on the right bank. Ja swaer.......

I don't want to point fingers at ford/amarok because I don't know what I am talking about. But I bought one of the last real amarok v6 bakkies and I drive around without any worries.

I just gave mine back to VW after it stranded me. Not nearly as disastrous (who knows), apparently just a glow plug.

Not so common on the TDV6s in the Land Rovers. But not unheard of.

Now I get a distinct feeling we may be reading plenty more about failures on these V6's in the future.

I think there’s buyers who thought that the VW badge will magically make the Ford unreliability disappear, they finding out now that it doesn’t….

And then before you know it you’re looking at the LION under the bonnet at the side of the road.

Does this V6 share anything with the cranky LR V6?

Its just a new Generation of the cranky TDV6... Some upgrades have been done to the bottom end. But i think the common LR V6 failures will remain. Only time will tell if the Fords also get Cranky.

It must be because these are fitted in SA. Millions of those went into F150s in the States and have proven to be reliable. Gee hom vir 'n rock spider en hy Ef hom op.
