Default National Luna 220V Issue - PLEASE HELP

    Hi All,

I have two NL camp fridges. One bought Jan 2023 (50 liter) and one in Feb 2024 (60 liter).

I used both in March of this year with no issues. Since then they have been switched off and stored in garage.

Want to use them now - but both now when I plug into 220V the lights comes on and then immediately switches back off.. and nothing happens?

Surely there cannot be a fault on both? Am I missing something? PLEASE HELP as Im going away this weekend and them them to work... on 220V.

I can only test the 12v via my dual battery in the morning when I have access to my bakkie...

Did they both work together the last time you used them? Maybe, just maybe they had a surge. They are quite sensitive to that I’ve heard. Have you tried plugging them in at different plugs? Without an extension lead?

If all else fails, call me tomorrow and I will try my best to assist. I have a backup plan if they are faulty.

You are close enough to Plantation Rd in Edenvale where the NL factory/workshop and sales outlet is. Take it to them and let them have a look.

That would be you best and quickest bet....

Try them on 12V as a test.

Could be they need a kick in the pants that the 220V - 12V internal PSU can't manage, and then they will be OK after that..

I am thinking tight bearings - or pressure build up from standing.

Ever had an electric motor that has been standing a while. If you try to turn the shaft by hand there is often a little resistance. Second time, smooth as silk.

why would this have happened to you - dunno. Maybe something as simple as the ambient that they were stored at or the temp when you switched them off.

Not trying to be funny but did you press the ‘on’ button the front panel? If they were off, when you plug in power, the lights will blip then turn off. Bottom right I think is the on button on the panel.

The newer units have the on/off button on the right bin temp up-button - issue is if you leave it on, load shedding hit and power comes back on - units does not always go back on - NL claims it is a safety feature for LS...

    Very glad OP got sorted!

On the older units like my 2013 and 2017 you hold in the up arrow to switch it on and off, the display and internal light will stay on, but the compressor will switch off. If I remember the default when plugging it in is always on though.

I always wondered why would manufacturers always insist in a products user manual to, and instruct on how to "Switch on the product". I now understand, thank you Goeiedag1

Not NL, but on the Weaco's they get a bit wonky if you do not switch them off to switch from 220 V to DC. I make a habit of doing that and they work fine

I am chairman of that club. Mine did the same, woke up one morning and they were off. The members made me chairman because I got them going but I don't know how. Pushed, pulled, unplugged, 12v, 220v checked the fuse then life.........still do not know what started them.

My old 40L Engel can also be swiched on and off. Just turn the temperature dial all the way left and you will hear a click, the green LED power indicator will go out and the fridge will be swiched off. Only the battery driven temp display still shows the cabinet temperature. I alway stores it switched off.

The Camp Master on the other hand kannot be swiched on or off. You have to swich it on and off at the power source.
