We had a 1996 Toyota Hilux Estate (Surf)which we traded in for a 2005 WK GC with about 100k on the clock. We then made the mistake of trading it in for a 2013 Prado which although reliable, was very heavy of fuel. When towing we were lucky to see north of 17mpg. After 3 months took a hit and traded it in for a 2012 GC Summit which had about 60k on the clock. It was immaculate.

We made the mistake of taking it to a Jeep dealership nearer to us rather than our normal Jeep dealer. From that point it was all downhill with errors constantly popping up. Each time it went in for a repair minimum cost was about R10k. The last repair cost us in excess of R5000 as they replaced the alternator and there were still issues with the car. It would lose power for no reason. We later found out that they had only been a Jeep dealership for about 3 months. Not long after that they lost the Jeep franchise.

We traded it in for our current 2018 WK2 Overland and are very happy with it. The biggest issue with the WK2 is rust on the leading edge of the bonnet due to a fault during manufacture and this applies to all Jeeps from about 2013. Jeep UK funded the cost of the replacement bonnet.

BTW towing today on the motorway we are averaging about 8.2km per litre towing 2000kg caravan plus loaded car. No caravan and on motorway we can get about 13km per litre so very happy on fuel consumption.

    Update

    1) Engine Light is off, and stays off, car drives lekker, no issues.
    2) Only Error now on the Scan App thingie is "703", that's something to do with a Brake Light Switch.
    3) Brake lights work 100%, no issues there.
    4) Should I clean that brake light switch, big job or not??
    5) If that Error still shows with a clean and/or new Brake Light Switch........what then??

    THANKS

Doesn't seem to be a whole lot to it.

Just a little lever with some contacts. So some contact cleaner could help.

    Evening Guys

I'd like to replace the tyres on this GC

    Current size is 245/70/16

Do I just stick with that, or are there other options?

Standard size is 235/70R16 so that is already slightly oversized. You won't be able to go much bigger without starting to mod. I would say stay with that size if you don't want to mod.

Most likely it received the correct "readings" multiple times so it dropped the error.

Often fixing one thing will clear the error somewhere else.

EG, clean MAF, the engine then runs correctly, so the throttle control error falls away because the throttle and the engine are now in sync.

Ma se Wa kom mooi aan.
Serviced, new thermostat, and I bought a TON of new suspension parts from a Guy in CT that I will fit, sommer net.
Total Cost so far, with expenses so far.....R 52000🤪🥳🥳
8.4 km/l in town, I guess on open road around 10
Lekker kar, and that Merc 2.7 Diesel works VERY well in it
Needs new tyres, and fit whichever of that bunch of new suspension parts can be fitted....so I'm guessing I'm in at below R 70000, ALL IN.
Like nogal die Kar, looking for ANY reason to have a spin with it😄
