I know the dealership you are referring to I was there on Friday the 12th looking at a Landy they had sent up from the Mosselbay branch. Had a long chat with the salesman, I would suggest moving on and finding another place that has the bakkie you are looking for.

RE the service history; I have previously bought a Merc on auction and when I was double checking the service history Merc Menlyn could only verify half the service history. I then refused to pay until full MB service history could be provided, turns out the car was serviced at Menlyn and Bedfordview and after verifying this I paid.

They changed the whole lockset and computer box
And basically told me indirectly I cant touch him
Told me that Carte Blanche did a story previously and caught a guy red handed and couldn't do anything
According to him he can do whatever he likes to his vechiles
Very arrogant through the whole phone call

My last 3 cars ( Hilux, Fortuner x 2) were bought this way.
All 3 from original owners in 100% condition.

    Benefits imo :

    - Meet the owner - a lot of "info" can be obtained from this.
    - Normally I Google/Facebook the owner to "check him out'.
    - See where/ how he lives.

My last Fortuner was bought from a car fanatic that kept the car in perfect condition ( and I got to see his vintage car collection).
Agree, I have turned around halfway to view the car in the past. Get a bad feeling.

If I arrive and I feel comfortable with the seller I am halfway to buying.

I have only 2 sales persons I will deal with, one Landrover guy I met years ago and one person on this forum even though I have never met him.

I think what they do is send it to Pretoria with kilometers "fixed" only for one reason
Chances are slim that someone might recognise the vechile in PTA

Alot of vechiles have been recognized by friends of the previous owner with lower kilometers than what its supposed to be

So send it far where no one will recognize it
