Default Need a mounting solution for my 276c

I have two 276c units, historically used with the sand bag type dash mount. These are a bit worse for wear after years in the sun and also the rattling against the windscreen is becoming an issue. Had a search for RAM mounts but would love some pointers or advice as to where I should throw my money.

    Cheers

PS, units get moved across several vehicles so something portable is required

PPS; Apologies for spelling error in thread title

All depends on how you want to attach it to the dash/windscreen.

    This link has all

    https://www.rammount.co.za/catalogue...e-RAM-HOL-GA7U

I use the twist lock suction cup (don't want to drill into my dashboard). Some olive oil around the edge of the suction cup and it stays there for a long bit. Else you can drill into your dash and it will never fall off. I use a ram mount for my phone, and used one for my old Montana 650.

The guys from Ram mount SA are very helpful if you have more specific model questions

Oh and the nice thing of ram mounts, it's modular. So you can have different base mounts in different vehicle. You might have a suction cup in one and a drilled in dash mount in the other. You just unscrew the double socket arm from one ball joint and attach it to the ball joint in the other vehicle

I bought a "RAM-B-166-347U" (includes the mounting plate, arm and suction cup) for my 276cx through Luke here on the forum (https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...-lukestrugnell ) - excellent service! From placing the order to having it in my sweaty paws, was less than 3 days. That thing sticks to the windscreen like you-know-what, through speed bumps, corrugations, you name it!

Unfortunately most of the Garmin car mounts are inadequate. I've tried all the usual tricks (hot water, gorilla tape, vaseline etc), they do improve things but don't solve the problem. I've resorted to using a RAM Mount base & modifying the device clip to attach to the RAM base. See attached pix.

I had a 276 and now a 276cx and find that, unsupported, the suction cup on the RAM mount usually pops once or twice, particularly on hot days it seems. My solution, let it rest on the dash protector, no more issues.

Suction cups will drive you crazy

Find a suitable spot and mount a Ram Ball permanently. No more hassles

Mounting a GPS in my vehicles has always been a PITA, so to get rid of the issue and to make sure that I have something that can be used for additional items, I devised a navigation bar which I use all the time now. The photos are self explanatory I think.

I just 3D printed RAM mounts a few weeks ago. I can print some for you for free. Filament is dirt cheap.

    Works a treat.
