Default Where to find a small dinghy/row boat...

    Hi all

Looking for a small [2-3 meter] almost 'old fashioned' rowboat/dinghy. Not really interested in an inflatable.
For use on a farm dam etc
Would be nice to have the ability to put a little motor on the back as well.

Cant seem to find a place that sells them. Facebook has a few, but they a bit old and tired looking.

    Any ideas?

    2 Options...

Get hold of the local Scout group in your area.
Amazingly even in Pretoria there is a Sea Scout group, and speak to them. I got a row boat from our local sea scout group.
I fixed up a row boat for them, and gave them a R500 donation.

Speak to the local sailing clubs.
There are always old boats ect just left lying on the hard, abandoned for a variety of reasons, and usually the clubs have auctions or sales of abandoned boats & gear every year to raise funds.
I met some crazy people.... They made me their leader.

These are very good. The 3.8 will be nice to row and can handle a small motor.

I'm sure he also does smaller.

I had one of these and would advise against this. Extremely heavy and the nose of the boat likes to scoop water.

Got a mirror dinghy with full set of sails on road legal and up to date trailer if you interested. Had many fun trips as a family on the knysna lagoid and other water ways when I was a kid. You can sail row or pop a motor on it.

Sorry the pic is upside down its been sitting in the roof of the garage or the past 10 years unused.Click image for larger version.

    ...
That is a special little boat. Don't let it go to a philistine who wants to only row or even (wretch, spit!) put a motor on it!

    Hi JanB

It was what got me into sailing as my dad was a keen sailer and so I got an Oppie the Dabbie then laser and finally a 49er but the mirror was always a great easy sailing family friendly dinghy.

As mentioned it hasn't been out the garage for many years and so needs to go to a new home along with the road trailer we used to tow with any number of boats on.

If ypu know anyone interested we happy to let the lot go for R12k. Trailer and paperwork up to date

Don't scoff at old boats. Restoring an old one can be very rewarding, way cheaper than new and is good for the environment.
If you do want something special, on the other hand, have a look at this guy's boats. (I have only seen his Gumtree ads, so cannot vouch for his work.)

    Don't tempt me!
I think you should just get it in the water yourself again.
Second prize, advertise on FB or Gumtree. There will be a good owner out there.
A licensed trailer in good condition is worth R12k on its own.
