I cleaned my panels last winter, and the panels facing NWW improved quite a bit. The ones facing N not much of an improvement.
I bought an extendable rod ( to 6m) and used it with a mop and squeegee to clean the panels.

I have just cleaned mine. 4x575W. I noticed recently they were battling to keep up when my pool pump was running and the battery was subsidising the load. Immediately after cleaning the battery was now charging again as well. They are on a flat roof though with little rain recently.

I joked above, about the rain doing its thing, but with the construction site next to us, the best I am seeing is peaks of 2.5kw, also not seeing peaks being handled or batteries charged.

My panels look Grey with dust. 10550w. I am using a lot more Eskom than last year with 2 Batteries. I added a 3rd in July last year.

Calling Herman, to clean and do a check of the system, as posted above

Pal of mine did same last week ... huge difference in production.

yes if on a flat roof and not positioned to get the most of our Winter Sun then cleaning will help , I also have flat panels and they do need cleaning the once on the roof 30 deg pitch are fine, I have never cleaned them and the output from them does down around 5% , the flat panels dropped to 50% after cleaning down to 25% so a big improvement

I can clean standing on the ground. I have not seen any difference in the output. Using municipal water we have to pay for it. Using own water then it is 2 pumps running. Electricity from the panels.

I wash them only for the look.

Those washing contracts are in the same category and air con servicing.

Definitely worth it. Batteries weren't charging fully before. Now, all is back to normal.

    Just poking some fun.

To this, I also decided to give mine a rinse with the hose pipe today as they looked kind of dusty so I obviously hoped for some material difference post rinsing, but alas. PV went up with 100-200w max. But you're right, they do look better black than brown.

I assume that the cleaning benefit depends on the area and how flat the panels are. We are close to "dust free" and the panels are at a nice angle. Inside 3 month between the dusting and house is still OK. Panels do get thin layer so that there is a slight color change.

Once I was told that on those panel farms in NC there are permanent cleaners but the bigger issue are the rats that like the wires. I have not checked these claims.

I had the panels at my house "professionally" cleaned last week.

Made ZERO difference. This after you could see how filthy the panels were. They are looking nice and shiny now, though.

I'm still peaking at about 2.5kW out of a possible 4.3kW.

My parents live about 500m from me, and theirs makes a bit more, but that is a brand new system.

We cleaned on Saturday. Friday the 24th the panels hardly got to 30kw and didn't charge batteries fully. Eskom also had to cover loads in the morning before the sun.

Sunday Eskom wasn't needed because after cleaning on Saturday the batteries charged fully. Panels went over 30kw and after 13:00 batteries were fully charged and panels covered load.

I used to live in Witbank. Air quality was bad. Middleburg has most probably the same. Coal mines, power stations and dust from farming. Maybe this mixture is "poison" for the panels.

Definitely. Winter is very dusty. With harvesting and the solar system is mainly used for the silos, having trucks riding in and out a lot of dust is thrown into the air just from that. If the dragline on the mine is running with the wind from the north, we get that dust too.
