    Default ID this snake?

So, this is Kenya, not SA. This little chap managed to get caught up in some netting and I carefully cut him free and released. The offending netting was disposed of properly.

I’m think he is a Rufous Beaked Snake? He was slim, about 3’ long, olive colour and white belly. Def a white mouth!

One of the Psammophis species, not familiar with Kenyan species, could be Psammophis mossambicus as I have encountered them throughout much of Sub-Saharan Africa. Harmless and a good snake to have a round:

Agree, defenitely one of the Grass snakes. Mildly venomous, not dangerous to humans.

Considering it had been trapped for (I guess) several hours in the netting, he was remarkably calm and wasn’t trying to bite. I know nothing about snakes, but wanted to help the little rascal, hence fashioning the y-shaped stick to hold his head gently as I cut the netting off. I managed to get it all off without damage and he quickly disappeared off into the bush.

I don’t think we get Boomslangs here, but Black Mambas are a possibility, hence looking to see if it had a black mouth. we do get big Puff Adders, but clearly not one of them.

Best of luck to him / her!

Well done and thank you for the assist. I am one that strongly believe that snakes play a role in nature and applaud you for your actions. The only thing I would say is that if you are not sure if it is a spitting snake or not, wear safety glasses at the least.

I removed a big Rinkhals from my neighbors garage and to my disgust (we had a crowd of neighbors watching) I was told to kill it. I told them I don't suffer from ignorance and fear.
