Posts like these reminds me of talk around the fire. Everyone yearns for the "good old days".
Like people posting food, booze and petrol prices from the 90's. Oh I wish it were the same today.
Or people posting how nice it was to play outside until the streetlights came on. Oh how I wish my kids could experience that.
Society has changed.
The world has changed.
This forum will also go through evolutions.
Who cares.
Take it or leave it.
Like I said, I have removed Tapatalk from my phone and will from now on only be making comments, if any, from my laptop that have been well thought out and are 100% what people want to hear. I will no longer be making spontaneous posts while sitting on the bog. I mean, who does that?
I joined my first forum in 2002. It was called snowboard.com, but much like this forum isn't always about 4x4, that one wasn't only about snowboarding, BUT, you needed a really thick skin in there. Sadly, the world went woke and it crashed and burned years ago. Reddit is a kindergarten compared to that.
Of course, there have never been any random remarks made on this forum, ever. Mine must have been the first. My bad.
No, this is not an airport, so I won't announce my departure. I for one don't actually need to be here.
Naes is Sean backwards, and it sounds like 'nice', so I drive a nice Landy.
In a Landrover the other vehicle is your crumple zone.
I think we forget some of our previous well-debated and blood-boiling threads of past. I recall the massive gun debate, and another on our political past. A few got bombed before the topics were even discussed. In some way, the forum is a bit freer today.
And with hindsight. I was on the wrong side of some of the views expressed.

Answering the call of the wild is just so much better than answering the telephone.
Waking up in the morning is a good start. Then remember never ever to cross off the last item on your "bucket list" before first adding at least one more !!

While others have announced imminent final departures, I never said I was leaving, just that I'll be spending much, much less time in here.
I've been moving around a lot in Spain the last few months making posts only from my phone. I guess I got carried away and inadvertently stepped on someone's toes by making some comments about 'cars' at an event I wasn't at, the true meaning of my posts being lost because I was out and about speed typing on a 3" touch screen. On the other hand, if I really was out of line the boss man would have said so himself. He always does, if someone goes too far. No, I don't know Dirk personally, but I do know how he runs this place. I've been around long enough.
For what it's worth, I was at Ruby River some 8 years ago right after we got the Landy and then the KZN GTG not too long ago. Swambo and I seriously wished we could have been at this last one. Now I'm not so sure we'll be at any others, lest I be reminded about my forum posts.
Another reason I've been coming in here is for news from the ground in SA, because while we don't live there anymore, both Swambo and I still like to know what's going on there. But hey, there are plenty other sources of news from the old country.
Now before someone says so, I'm not all butthurt, not at all, I'm just re-thinking where my time might be better spent in the future.
So how has this forum changed since I joined 8 years ago? Put it this way, it's not the same. People change, people move on.

Neither of my 4x4's engage low range...
Out of all of the changes over the years, the loss of some of our members has been the biggest change. Some through passing and others for other reasons.
Some of the thematic changes on the forum are directly linked to those departed members, a community, or society, will always fill in and redifne those gaps, for better or worse.

In fact - I still have his number. The last time I saw him on a "trip" was the "Iconic 4x4" outing at Piesangkloof. I think I shall send him a message and we do something like that again. It was quite a large turn out too.
