Otter maybe?
|
I have a farm on the Necha River probably 2km from the coast on the PE side of east london. I have been getting these strange foot prints on the farm. I at first glance thought it was a big dog but when you look at it closely there is a back mark . What ever it is it is big. I have a lot of bush buck etc on the farm. So could be hunting them. Here are a couple of/ different prints.
Otter maybe?
Honey Badger or porcupine, rear paw has the back pad
Are there claw marks?
Are they all the same size or some smaller without the back part of the print?

Looks like porcupine or aardvark to me?
Beat-up rat rod of a '96 Nissan Patrol that bears the evidence of many wonderful adventures (and a few stupid indiscretions).
Water mongoose? That one long toe. The cats have very rounded prints. Antbear has very long nails on the front paw.

As someone interested in tracking, No clue?
The indent at the back is throwing me off and it seems heavy. 3/4 toes, no nails so not dog.
Ostrich running?

Yip, Im sticking with otter tracks.
"The Cape Clawless Otter has 5 toes on the fore- and hind-feet. Those on the hind-feet are webbed for half their length, while webbing on the fore-feet is barely perceptible. In soft mud the 5 toes, the intermediate pads and the proximal pads show clearly in the spoor. In firm mud only an indication of the proximal pads may show."
Those tracks shout brown hyena, but the back pad has me stumped.

But for the size, I would have reckoned porcupine. Only thing that sort of makes sense to me... Perhaps there is a gargantuan iron-pig roaming around there ?
