Definitely too big for a Ratel IMO, even when factoring in that wet mud can make a track bigger.

Was just posting the 2 tracks that are known to have back pads that show, size is mentioned for clarity.

I still reckon it is a porcupine. Even if it is a mother of a porcupine. However, as Bwana Tony mentioned, the mud probably enlarges or distorts the size of the prints.

I am sorry. This has to be said:

Every time I read the thread subject heading I am thinking of paper printing references. Until I decided one day to open it and read further.

So for what it is worth, my guess is Helvetica Bold. :-)

What is the size of the prints? Looks like an Otter to me. Otter tracks should be approx. 70mm to 100mm long.

My money is on the otter family with Flap, and definitely the great granddaddy judging by the size. The itrack lite and itrack Africa apps have some great examples to compare with and a great search function too.

Certainly on nearer examination seems to be claw marks.

You would need to look around . Judging by the size and shape (its large - 10cm wide by about 16-18 cm on your tape) as well as positioning of toes - I would look towards baboon but then you would spot the hand print in the area.

If we don't get a trail camera photo of this creature soon, then I won't be able to rest well in Dec.

Off the top of my head, I think monitors have 5 toes and you would expect to see tail drag marks.
