Default Honda 400 hawk - thoughts

    Howdy ho
So I swing by the local motorcycle shop and see they have a 1979 Honda 400 hawk for sale in very nice condition. One owner, original, garaged, full service history, all that good stuff.
Believe it had about 12k on clock.
The old man is wanting 35k.
He said it is actually worth about 45k and that these are highly sought after and will appreciate in value as the years go on.

I don't know. Much about these but would 35k be a fair price?

    Many thanks in advance

35 K is a good price. Definitively worth it.

Show us a pic of the bike whether you buy it or not. I might be interested. Love the old school bikes.

I think it's way overpriced.... You can get a pretty decent big bike for R35k

For a classic bike in good nick that price seems fair
    For comparison, I bought a Yamaha TW200 in 2018 for R35,000
2011 model, One owner, 500km on the clock, basically brand new
Yes i got a hell of a bargain as new they were going for 65k at the time

Same bike now, with over 20k km on the clock will go for 40k plus
even much older models, that are not in the best of shape, well worked, and dropped.

for 35-40k you can get an old superbike, but then its well over 15 years old and sitting over 50,000km on the clock
And definitely not guaranteed what past it has

Cool Re: Honda 400 hawk - thoughts

I've been looking at the tw200. One of my favorites but with the new baby out of our price range for the moment.

Thanks for the info. I think I could find cheaper for the hawk around 20 to 25k but then you probably gotta fix a fair bit. And ends up at the similar price of the old man's 35k asking price.

If in great nick it is worth R35k. On old bikes originality and condition is very NB.
