Generally the Mara Conservancy (western ⅓ of the reserve), https://www.maratriangle.org/, is more professionally run and less crowded than the other part of the reserve. You can camp in the Conservancy, I don't think you can camp in the other portion, though there are continual stories of reviving the old Sand River campsite, but I have lost track of the status. Camping is rustic. If you want 'lazy camping' consider Mara West, just outside the Triangle, or I'm sure there are other campsites in that area.

There are many trip reports for that area that will provide you a wealth of information. My blog (below), and a great blog by forum member Ortelius, https://safaribug.wordpress.com/, will have reports on the Masai Mara. Others as well.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Hi
We just returned from the Mara Triangle - there is a couple of public campsites and then there are the "private campsites' that you would need to book for 10,000KSH and then also have 2 Askari's for 4,000ksh each evening. They don't interfere and keep to themselves once they arrive.

    Some consideration.

Also - take note of the 12 hour ticketing system in place now - we camped and on our last day you need to be out of the park by 10am at one of the reserve gates, depends on where you are exiting though. On the Western side probably still enough time for a game drive but on the Eastern side not really time for a leisurely drive though.

I have been camping in the Mara for more than 50 years. Gosh, if you could have seen it then in its untamed wilderness.

Yes, I could tell nanika exactly how to camp nowadays in the Mara, but there are so many threads on this forum with all the information he/she requires. Most of those threads have been following my advice.

This will be interesting reading for those who take a close interest in all things Kenya. Increased park fees from 1 January 2024. Conservation costs a lot of money.
