Default What have you done with your Isuzu today ?

Busy weekend with a new vehicle ....

Fitted a spare-wheel bracket for an extra spare wheel, installed a 6-wheel TPMS system, small Engel fridge, VHF radio and a pure sine wave inverter.

    Hi Roelf

This is what happens when a Defender and Terios sleep in the same garage ......

Vehicle is a 300 KB Extended Cab 4x4 LX

The extra spare is exactly the same as the originals supplied with the vehicle, and the bracket is a Frontrunner one.

The TPMS system is the 6 wheel Valor one.

The fridge is a 15 litre Engel. Same as in the Landy, and used to keep water and cool drinks cold when on the road. I still have to make a bracket for it so that it stands level.

The VHF radio is underneath the passenger seat and I have fitted a magnetic base antenna to it in the mean time. I will do a permanent antenna installation as soon as the canopy and rooftop tent is on.

The inverter is a 180W pure sine wave Victron and will be used to charge camera batteries, etc.

I traded my standard wheels for 17" Dick Cepek rims and a set of BF's. Went from 255/65/17 to 265/65/17. Just waiting for my Bushtech Canopy to arrive (which will be next week sometime) and then just fit my nudge bar. Can't wait to see it all finished!

    Gents,
I think I'll stick my question here:
I'm having a steel storage box made for my bakkie. It will fit between the wheel arches, be as high as the arches and 300mm wide. Any suggestions on how to fix it to the bakkie. I'm thinking drilling holes through the bak floor and bolting it on - anything wrong with that?? When I move to the coast, it that a rust monster??

PS: the box will be galvanised and the bakkie is lined with thick black whatever material.

    Roelf,
I'm having the same thoughts. Should I or should I not drill holes through the load body. I want to fit hooks to secure my fridge and secondary battery. My FIL worked in Moz for 12 years and fitted a long range diesel tank to the back of his ClubCab (with holes drilled through load body). All I can say is that when we removed the tank when he came back, there were no rust around the holes. He did used silicone to seal everything up when the tank was fitted.

DJ, that is good news. I was thinking rubber washers and silicone. I just need space for the stuff that was always under the Pajero boot floor. The little boxes under the Isuzu rear seats are very shallow and I filled them up way too soon.

    Hey guys,
this is how i attached my box, i drilled two holes on the side, one on each side, and bolted my box threw.
all i did is paint with anti rust in the holes and have had no problems,
I lived in the USA for 10 years, i have a chevy silverado there with a similar box on and it was bolted the exact same way, never any problems.

just for interest sake, how much did you guys pay for your boxes?
im adding 2 photos of mine, i built mine myself of the same concept thats on my silverado

Just ignore my bull bar on the back, my box is not on the ground, so you can still load long things under it.
its just bolted on the sides

    Thanks Jon Jon.

That is a big and handsome box you have there. I will go much smaller and I really only use my bakkie for commute and leisure. I'm still resisting the fitting of a canopy. We are taking a short tour in Feb (guesthouse type accommodation only), but that will hopefully guide us towards what our needs with the bakkie will be. Our first overland trip will only be in 2017 - so plenty time to contemplate and adjust.

PS: Price for my box - no idea. I ordered the manufacture this morning. Will find out when it is finished.

I had to do everything all over again as my bakkie was written off after a collision with a cow 2 days short of 2 months old and with 6240km on the odo

Got the new bakkie on Friday and had the canopy put on last week, the loadbox rubberized and the windows tinted (35%). Took it for a spin to Outjio for the weekend and spent some time in the Ugab River on Sunday.

    So far this week :

I've fitted the small 15 L Engel fridge and inverter behind the seats and a 6-wheel TPMS in front of the gear lever. I still have to do the 2-way radio, but that is a 15 minute job.

In the loadbox the extra sparewheel carrier and the extra spare wheel is in. The ARB compressor and LED lights above the hatches are in, but not connected yet. I have drawn 16mm˛ cables from the engine bay to the loadbox. I have bought the box for the aux battery and intend to install it tomorrow. I can then also complete the wiring for the compressor and light. Still to be done is tie-down tracks and the fridge must still go in.

I have to have everything done before 30 April as I have to go up to the Caprivi for a week

    Hi Jaco

    Groete

Fitted the 2-way radio today and completed the wiring of the lights and compressor in canopy. Also fitted tie-down rails in load bin and mounted a spade to the inside of one of the gull-wings.

Got the high-cycle battery today and will fit the box, battery and fridge tomorrow.

Then it is just the additional load bars to go. As soon as I have them I can complete the carriers for the kayak end bikes.

    Feedback after my previous post:
Picked up the box this morning - total cost R1300. I'll post a pic after mounting it. I have also fitted a canopy since my last post in this thread.

I removed my dual bat box today. Need to rethink how to best mount it, the way it's now is not working for me...
Got all the led lights and will be installing those when I have some time.
I like anything with 4 or more wheels...
