Just remember, the contents must be insured under all risks. Ie camping equipment etc.
    Your broker should advise.

Maybe just something to keep in mind,

I would advise having your vehicle and Caravan insured at the same insurer.

What if your car breaks down? Will the insurer cover the cost to recover both the vehicle and the caravan? If both do you need to contact 2 companies to recover your car in caravan.

I has happened to us and luckily the recovery cost for both was covered by the insurance. With both under the same insurer the same recovery company could be used.

Is there a insurer that allows you to change your insurance to theft or fire damage only and then change back to comprehensive insurance when in use? Obviously with lower premiums for the periods with lower cover.

I ask since a caravan (or at least in our case) stands at our home for 90% of the time and only really needs to be comprehensively insured when we go away for a weekend or on holiday. I know naked has something called cover pause ofr vehicles (when your car doesnt get driven), but they don't insure caravans.

I do not know about an insurer that gave that cover but I know that they do not want to insure the caravan only during times of use because the premiums is calculated on the annual claims paid and that is why their premiums is so much lower than car premiums. My caravans premiums is only R350 p/m on a value of R 380 000. If they only receive that R350 for 2 months in a year I do not think they will be able to pay 50 caravans that is written off, destroyed by fire and stolen per year as well as paying for damages due to burst batteries and tents that is torn in storm winds. That is the type of claims we receive on caravans during a year.

How do the insurance determine the value of of the caravan or camping trailer?
Is there an "book value" of the product?

That is a very, very good premium.. Is it caravan alone or do you have another vehicle/content etc on the policy?

We had a breakdown and were towing a borrowed trailer. Tuffstuff sent 2x tow trucks to get the vehicle and trailer to town and transport the 4 of us in the vehicle. Didn’t cost a cent and they paid R500 towards accommodation for the evening.

Ive said it before, Tuffstuff really is the best insurer.

I have my Xplorer covered under my policy for all my vehicles and household content with Discovery. This way, it's way cheaper than insuring it on its own. I'm happy with the way my claim was handled and paid out when the battery in the van got cooked. The old style transformer power supply got powered when the gardener thought he should plug the power lead to the caravan in. I noticed a rotten egg smell when walking past the van some days later. Luckily, I got everything switched off and cooled down before further damage occurred. I put in a claim for the battery with a test report and quote from the battery shop, and 3 days later, the money was in my account.
