Looks like the love-child of Lexus and Rav4.

    From Carscoops :
While Toyota has not commented on the powertrain options of the new Land Cruiser, leaked documents suggest that the SUV will be available with a trio of 4-cylinder engines – at least in global markets. The “1GD-FTV” is the 2.8-liter turbodiesel from the Hilux and the Fortuner and will likely be reserved for markets outside North America. The “TJA250” is believed to be a turbocharged 2.4-liter petrol from the Tacoma and the Kluger which could be a part of a hybrid setup. Finally, the “2TR-FE” is referring to a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter petrol unit, likely destined for entry-level models.

Interestingly, the twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine of the 2024 Lexus GX which would normally be the most plausible candidate is missing from the list. Although this doesn’t mean it couldn’t be added later on, its omission could serve as an extra point of differentiation between the two SUVs, making the Land Cruiser a four-cylinder affair. What we do know for certain is that power in all variants will be routed to all four wheels via a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time 4WD system.

    Toyota won't disappoint us...

It will be the boring & uninspiring engine choices as usual.

I dunno, the 300 got two very nice mills and the 2.4 Hybrid will be pretty good methinks.

Strange how the uninspiring and boring engine choices sell like hotcakes .... Could it be because the alternative is burnt injectors/crap resale value etc - not the kind of inspiring choice most people want.

Slow down Toyota, damn. I'm still wishing I could afford a Prado newer than 2014 with under 200k km's on the clock! Now you're just making that model look even older

I like the look. Will be interesting to see the engine options, and of course pricing!

My mind battles with a 4cylinder in a big vehicle, even Land Rover dropped the D240. It did shift, drive pretty well but it always felt like something was missing especially when towing…the missing being the extra 2 cylinders.

I'm with you but its all about perception(remember the milkbottle debates here) - 240/600 are VERY decent figures but that or the V6 will be very expensive options if they do come, I think the 2.8 will probably be the base model??

The 2.8 already offers 165kw/550nm in certain states of tune. Add a bit of battery power to that, as has been slated, then figures of around 180kw/600nm are easily achievable one would think. If Toyota can get a decent power band, it will offer plenty of performance.

Those 'guesstimate' figures would be the same as the TDV6 in the Disco 4 which offered more than enough performance, and the Disco 4 is a heavy vehicle. Hold the crankshaft jokes so as not to derail this thread

Agree but a 4 pot has to work so much harder to give those figures....than say a 6 cylinder of equivalent power. Not to mention longevity, reliability etc.

Indeed. If there is sufficient power band though, the 10-speed will make it work nicely. But the 4 is going to work hard so fuel savings over a 6 will probably not be much, if anything at all.

those vehicles only do what they are good at probably a few times a year. The rest of their 99% lives they are in cities and suburbs where the 4-pot is not working any hard at all.

I've have not seen any reliability issue with those 4-pots. I drove a 150d4d for close to 200,000kms without a single issue with the motor. The middle east have used the 2.7 4-pot in their 120s and 150s and I don't see any negative reports.
