    From Carscoops :
While Toyota has not commented on the powertrain options of the new Land Cruiser, leaked documents suggest that the SUV will be available with a trio of 4-cylinder engines – at least in global markets. The “1GD-FTV” is the 2.8-liter turbodiesel from the Hilux and the Fortuner and will likely be reserved for markets outside North America. The “TJA250” is believed to be a turbocharged 2.4-liter petrol from the Tacoma and the Kluger which could be a part of a hybrid setup. Finally, the “2TR-FE” is referring to a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter petrol unit, likely destined for entry-level models.

Interestingly, the twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine of the 2024 Lexus GX which would normally be the most plausible candidate is missing from the list. Although this doesn’t mean it couldn’t be added later on, its omission could serve as an extra point of differentiation between the two SUVs, making the Land Cruiser a four-cylinder affair. What we do know for certain is that power in all variants will be routed to all four wheels via a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time 4WD system.

I dunno, the 300 got two very nice mills and the 2.4 Hybrid will be pretty good methinks.

Strange how the uninspiring and boring engine choices sell like hotcakes .... Could it be because the alternative is burnt injectors/crap resale value etc - not the kind of inspiring choice most people want.

I drove the US version last month, which has a 4 cyl petrol turbo plus a hybrid motor. Very nice, but surprising lack of get-up-and-go (compared to my non-turbo V6 Honda)

This one had all the bells and whistles (including head's-up display) and while very nice, borders on double the price (US$80K) of equally competent US competition. Then there is the US Tacoma and 4Runner almost in the same league but much less expensive, and the luxo-Lexus version above. All from Toyota. And no plug-in hybrid in any of them (yet), so still higher consumption than the competition. I look at this as an FJ replacement - i.e.a "lifestyle vehicle". And hey - that's where the big profits are

From what I have seen in USA reviews, that lithium battery takes up boot space and the 3rd row is lost.

Also the petrol you folk have there has the start battery in the rear as well. (in location where the jack and tools are in SA versions)

Cannot see buyers in SA being interested in the small petrol hybrid BUT if the V6 3,5l petrol motor was available as part of a hybrid setup that would be another matter.....

Yes the US reviewers aren't too keen on this car. Seems like the 4Runner is better kitted out and more or less the same size. They also have the Sequoia as their big SUV alternative (no LC300 there) and the GX550 if you want luxury.

Another setting I found to display is transmission temp. Another annoying this is you need to take the car to Toyota to program the remote to auto open or close all the windows and sunroof. Most cars you just do this on the remote.
