There were a couple of sightings this past week. N1 and Gauteng.

Any news on these new Prado’s, aren’t they being launched in April and if so why such a big secret? I’m in for a new vehicle in that range and would be interested but Toyota is so quiet and secretive about it, I may just go and buy an Amaford V6

Dealers normally don't advertise these kind of launches in advance, as they most likely still have old stock.

I received an email saying it will be launched in April, apart from that I have no info.

I really like the new Prado we are in the market for a new vehicle in this segment and would also be the wife's daily. My only concern is the 2.8GDS is this not going to suffer the same fate being stolen as much as the Hilux and Fortuner? As much as we want to consider the new Prado is it worth worrying every time you drive or park it?

No need to worry about it.

I bought my wife a Prado last year October. Before purchasing it, I was also concerned about the theft risk, as the car is used by my wife most of the times driving the kids around.

I spoke to my insurance broker about it, and he said the Prado is not on the high risk list. In fact it doesn't even feature on any lists of cars being jacked or stolen.

Give it at least 1 year after launch just in case of the usual unforeseen snags with fresh new cars. Am sure you can nurse the itch

Official launch end April. No stock until Sept/Oct, which would include at least 1 price increase.

2nd hand news so take it from whence it comes. The said source has his name on the waiting list and was advised of this possibility.

    Best advice ever.

No matter what the brand, there are always issues on first year production.

Puzzled but I followed a TOY last week in Riverclub Gauteng which very much looked like the new Prado. The vehicle was being driven fast and came up and overtook me. Saw front and rear.

Saw him at traffic light as we travelled. Front was very different. He overtook me and I saw badge but it did not have other ID. Wheels were noticeable.

    Any one aware of same?

The launch edition has round head lights and the later/standard edition has a square head light with a couple of smaller lamps in the square. Rear end is the same on both models as far as I know.

Had the round lights at front. Took me bit by surprise as I have dashcam but forgot to look! Looks very good in the flesh. Front stunning. Rear less so.

Handles well. Chap was driving quickly and cornering also quickly.

Agreed, perhaps time to get quotes from other insurers as well. I life in one of the mentioned towns and my insurer requires no tracking devices.

Spoke to my broker this morning.

He once again said it is not a high risk vehicle according to their stats and I don't need 2 tracking units. If it does become high risk in the future, I will simply sell it.
