No, the 2.8 will have a 'very mild' hybrid, and still only be 150kw, the PROPER motor is the 2.4 petrol turbo hybrid at 230kw and 600nm......which by some accounts is not coming here yet unfortunately, but as mentioned...lots of speculating and unknown..

Oh yes, that’s right. I am still unsure why they used the word ‘mild’? Will it be a smaller electric motor with the diesel?

I get why Toyota is doing it, they selling the landcruiser brand in the states which is a huge market for them, but that is not a Prado. It's a long wheelbase FJ. Atleast the states are getting a decent engine. I'm not a fan of the 2.8 in the 150's and I don't think it's enough for such a big vehicle.

The Prado has always had the rear swing door & factory long range fuel tank. With the spare underneath we probably lucky if it's 100L.

I was also hoping they would stick to the tradition of the vertical running front grill, it was a, signature of the Prado.

One up side is now, there is no argument: a Prado is a landcruiser

Looks very nice but without a V6 petrol option I will not consider it.

Was in 2 minds when I ordered a new one earlier this year, was not clear if I should wait for the 2924 model.
Given that I am buying petrol, no regret for taking the "old" model with the ancient (with its own downsides) 4.0 V6.

A 4 cylinder will never give me same experience, even if brilliant (which the 2.4 turbo electric is in the much smaller RAV4 and Lexus RX - emphasis on the word smaller)

Funny how Ford went one way and Toyota the other way in terms of engine size.

I see a lot of V6 Ford bakkies and SUV of late.

The new Prado shape will need time to get used to the more I think about it.

They are probably saving the twin turbo V6 for when they reveal the GR version

SA market always has had a diesel and petrol Prado. Very likely the 2.4 turbo petrol will be available alongside the 2.8 diesel.

Jip, according to reports I have read it seems the turbodiesel unit will work together with a small electric motor / generator and a 48-Volt battery, while the power will be transmitted to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

When will Toyota Land Cruiser Prado be in SA?

Toyota South Africa Motors has confirmed that the newest member of the Land Cruiser family will make its South African debut in the first half of 2024 with local model line-up, pricing and specification communicated closer to introduction timing.
