Default Free Camera Mount Car door design

    Hi Guys

I was tired of the crazy price some of the mounts are even though they are generally all straight forward. I designed my own mount bossed off the Eckla design. I have attached the images below as well as the designs and laser cutting files.

I had it cut out of 2mm and 0.6mm mild steel and then just used general 6mm and 8mm nuts and bolts with washers.
I then added some felt and 8mm foam on some section to protect the car door and metal on metal sections

The suction cups I bought separately as well as the hinge used to mount it to the structure.

I tested it on the weekend at Pilannesburg and it worked like a dream and even on the bumpy roads it stuck to the car with no issues. I was also able to close the windows when needed and did not have the remove the structure from the car.

I will be happy to send further details if any one needs more details.

    Cheers

    Hi Guys

Just some further information regarding the mount that I have been asked about.

    1. The section that slides between the door and the window. I used a woollies fabric shopping bag and cut and glued a piece to the side that the window might touch. The prevents possible scratching of the window.
    2. To stop the nuts on the sections that need to be loosened for adjustment to come loose on bumpy roads I used a standard 20mm tap washing and made the hole 6mm big. I then used this as a washer that absorbs some of the vibration so as to not cause the nut to come loose. Another possibility could be to use a lock not.
    3. For the main mounting plate and the bottom section that acts as the large hinge I again used a 20mm tap washer however this time as a spacer between the 2 pieces of metal. You will see in the image below what I mean.
    4. I also glued felt onto the section of metal that pass over each other to allow for smooth movement and again assist with possible vibrations.
    5. For the sections that touch the door and window sill I used a 8mm high density foam just taken from a sleeping mat or yoga mat. This protects the paint work from scratching.

Note : Before gluing the foam on, place your bolts into the slots and then cover them with the foam. This will keep the bolts in place and ensure you do not accidentally loose them.

This design is free guys so please use it how you want to and you are welcome to make changes as you want. If you want to make for others as well please go ahead.

All I ask is that you do not use my design for profit and go out and sell it to others

Good looking and clever use of glass suction cups. If you guys are stuck, I'll happily cut and bend a few (on permission and with the logo in place) if you allow me to nest this in as I work with material.

I can't sell someone else's design. The offer is a free cut and bend of some parts - the rest you guys can put together on your own. And I need time to work it in to my program.

Yes Heinz Powder coated SS would be a excellent combo for that.

My Camera Mount is coming along
fine ... mainly need to fit rubber:foam
linings to avoid scratching my Landy (!)
also will slowly replace butterfly nuts
with fancy plastic heads etc when I find 'em.

Im fashioning my own top angle grip piece
that will insert in/down behind window OR
right over door pelmet of window
if necessary ... it will extend down 7cm into or behind door vs the 2-4cm curvilinear original.
I sourced and angle-cut out a very rigid though thin (1.2mm stainless ?) steel angle section from the steel backing of an old GE Stove.

Many Thanks DBussey & Heinz for enabling this project!

Hi Dave, i live in Gauteng and got it cut at a company in Jet Park called Dynamic laser.

If i remember correct it worked out at about R280 to have 2 sets cut and bent has they had a minimum fee .

Any laser cutting and bending company should be able to assist. The DXF files uses to cut the design is in a comment on this thread as the original one did not upload.

    Cheers
