    Default GlueTread external patches

I have been searching for a solution to putting a rear bumper and adding a carrier for an extra wheel for my upcoming Bots and Nam trip.

I can repair punctures in the tread but sidewall cuts seem to be the biggest threat.

Doing some research, I came across this product called GlueTread. Www.gluetread.com

The idea is to patch the yre sidewall externally.

I have imported a kit. R2k including delivery fees. Comes with 4 patches. Let's see if it works. We leave for Botswana on 15 June. 4 vehicles and one camper trailer.

    I will give feedback

Looking At the YouTube videos it is definitely a viable solotion for emergencies and more cost effective than the bumper and extra wheel.

I don't think that will work, it's only going to lead to disappointment.

Please take the necessary repair kit and spare wheel along on your trip.

That might, might, work on a ATV or something, light vehicle running low pressures, but on a fully loaded overland vehicle, good luck.

But please do report back after you have tried it.

    looks to be this

    or this

too many variables so it can't be marketed as a side-wall repair for highway use, probably okay for low speed offroad.

On longer trips I always take an extra tyre. Not that heavy at all, and I just sling it on top of the RTT. A bit of a mission, but I don't mind. Its not that difficult to do a tyre change in the bush: having a 65 or 60 profile tyre also makes it easier.

I discovered this beginning December, and bought the single kit.
This is ment for an emergency, and not to be used on tarred roads.

My first job involved working with truck tyres.
I would use my own judgment when using this product, it looks legit.
It is like any other tool, and could possibly/potentially save me a huge headache.

The idea is to fix the tyre and get you back to the main road, where you can then fit your good spare wheel. This kit will obviously be limited into what it can repair to get you mobile.

I have helped friends change tyres in the velt due to sidewall damage, this kit would have worked in
    90% of these situations.

PS, our Defenders have 265x75x16 tyres, with pretty huge sidewalls. If a cut is not in an awkward place, this patch can work. You will need to do some preparation though.
