    Default Madagascar

Seeing there isnt a Madagascar section on the forum I will post here.

    Does anyone know:

    1. Is it possible to ship a car to Madagascar for an adventure? If yes then through whom? Costs?
    2. Alternatively, where can one rent a kitted 4x4 there without a driver?

Maybe get hold of the guys from voetspore, as they recently did a trip there with vehicles they shipped over.

I have no idea of costs to ship, but I am sure it will be cheaper than renting. 4x4 rental, even for non-kitted vehicles is insane there. Easily three times the prices we see in RSA.

That said, 2nd hand import 4x4s are pretty cheap there. So depending on how long your trip is planned for, buying a used vehicle and selling it again afterwards might be a better solution

It is possible to ship a vehicle to Madagascar. Voetspore did it a few years ago. Maybe ask them for advice and/or contacts.

Yeah need to watch the Voetspore episodes on that adventure. It could even be more economical to share a 12M container with someone Else who wants to ship a car across.

    I have found 4x4 rentals there https://www.roadtripafrica.com/madagascar/car-rental

Looking at EUR 90 - 110 per day depending on duration.. not too bad either

I would hesitate to drive anything I own there. Those are some of the worst roads I have ever seen. At least if the rental breaks it's not your baby and you don't have to try and source parts at exorbitant costs and rely on someone without the skills to try and fix it. While they are a nation of amazing people, friendly and helpful, excellence is not a shining feature there. That combined with their culture of saying what they think a person wants to hear rather than what is would seriously discourage me from taking anything from here that can break down in a major way. You will be in for a level of frustration that you didn't imagine even existed. I vote for renting.
