    Default Camping Ground in Tete

    Hi folks,

We are routing southbound from Malawi to Gorongosa in September 2023. Can anyone suggest a decent camping ground in or near Tete? Jesus Bom Camp looks pretty good but I would appreciate suggestions from those who have recently been this way.

    Many thanks.

We could be crossing paths we are heading for Malawi in September as well and that campsite is one of our options here's a bit of detail from iOverlander. iOverlander | Jesus é Bom

The camp site you looking at is very basic and open but have seen campers there over the years. dont know how safe it is

would ask Tete ferry sun if you can camp there or one of the other lodges Abdula/Oasis on the Moatize side

If you let me know your requirement then I can ask my branch mgr

We camped at Jesus Bom campsite in 2018 and thought it was great. It's fairly tight if full, but I think there were four or five vehicles there the night we stayed and the manager was stunned, apparently that is very unusual. Has a view of the river, a pool, pleasant setting in town. We liked it.

Hi River Rat, many thanks for this suggestion. This looks to be a far better bet than Jesus Bom. I have asked the folks in Gorongosa for suggestions in Tete, but they are closed for the time being. Will advise if they suggest any place other than these two.

Thank you for this info. We will be travelling from Liwonde in Malawi down to Gorongosa, so a decent resupply and fuel stop close by will be great.

Not to talk you out of one over the other, but I looked at the photos of Jesus Bom on iOverlander and in reality it is nicer than shown. Nicer than the alternative? I couldn't say.

Hi Clive, my email has been forwarded to the relevant person in Liwonde, but no reply as yet. After the re-stock we hope for some decent sightings.

I am typing this while camping at Kukutana near Tete. A beautiful campsite with lush lawns, view over the Zambezi, pool, hot shower, flush toilet, kitchen area with fridge and most helpful staff. No electricity at sites and and "interesting" ablution with limited privacy. Jesus Bom has apparently closed down - a real pity.
