Default Security upgrades on a modest budget

    hi,

My aunt lives alone in her house with her brother staying in a back room in the yard. she has been upgrading her place slowly over a number of years and it seems that suddenly her place has caught the eye of some low lifes. she has a precast concrete fence on two of her yards' boundries facing the street and wire fence with two neighbors and her house is a corner stand.

For many years no one has bothered her but then things started when they broke into her tool shed where kept garden tools etc. then they tried multiple times to break into the house by trying to enter through the front or back door. She put up a "doringdraad" fence on the precast concrete but it was stolen off few days later . Then she bought solar lights from cctvdirect when they were running a special little more than a year ago. Finally put them up a few days ago and 4 of the 5 lights were stolen a day later.

This has me very concerned about her safety as things seem to be escalating. she stays in a small town and the armed response services are bad to say the least. i was thinking to put up "doringdraad" fencing again on the precast and around the perimeter with a stronger design that could not easily be stolen off and then she should get a dog. i don't think it would be above them to poison the dog so that is another concern.

I am looking for ways to increase the security without breaking the bank as I would have to assist her to do the upgrades. Amongst the family there is a divers skillset which could be tapped into to DIY some aspects of the work to keep costs down as well.

i was looking at cameras, technology would be ideal but is not in the budget, also I saw another thread saying cameras are also targeted for theft. perimiter alarms would be a good idea but since people can easily jump the fence at the moment it would have to be the first area that must receive attention.

please help with ideas or designs that could be looked into as possible solutions.

My father in law uses two of these things in the following link, armed each night in the two dark and far away corners of the property. For something so cheap, theyve been working surprisingly well and long. Maybe something to consider as a early warning system if the guys are prowling around at night. Then yes, a dog probably wouldnt hurt. Let it sleep indoors to prevent the poisoning. When the alarm goes off she can just let the dog out to sort things out then

Of course the first line of defense is the wall. Make it more difficult to get over. Spikes, razor wire, electric fence. They can get over anything, but just make it more of a chore.

Then I will say beams, as far away from the house and as close to the wall as possible. What you want in that situation is a good early warning when they are still some distance from the house.

Then lights. But you say they steal everything. Yikes. Try and put them up much higher than they can reach. Shining from the inside to the outside. Big ones. 30-50w. If you have enough bright lights, no one should be able to see into the yard from the outside, but you can see clearly.

Then some good slam lock trellidors or similar at all the doors. I would say spend most of your budget on these.

What types/brands of Beams would be considered suitable?
