    2008 Ford Ranger 3.0l Tdci
Initially she came in as she didn't want to start, and tents to go into limp mode.
start was easy, leking fuel line behind the engine, replaced and starts first time everytime.
Limp mode was MAP sensor erros and Barromatic pressure errors, This turned out to be a leaking Boost pipe, so she got a new one.
So she got a full Service
    new universal on her propshaft
    Radiator Coolant Flush
    Stage 1 Economy Remap
EGR and EGR cooler blank and delete
    CAT removed and Deleted
This puts her up to 152kW and 500Nm

Customer States. Ford is going into limp and struggles to start.
Diagnostic error, Map sensor and Barometric error etc etc.
Struggling to start, funny enough when you depress the clutch... Told him to be more uplifting and depress the clutch when turning the key... Seems to have solved it.. So maybe a thrust bearing ontl the way out.

    Map sensor was easy enough...
Removed it, well some of it..
New one fitted and sommer cleaned a few other sensors as well...

Happiness all round and customer on his way with a smile... Click image for larger version.

Voel of ek elke dag in 'n speelgoed winkel is.

Had a Polo 1.4tdi manual in from another workshop today.
Car was smoking badly under load.
Step one, Cleaned out the intake. And blanked the EGR. Deleted from software. Smoking was more or less gone.
Step two, removed the CAT, deleted from software.
Smoke is almost non existant. I belive with a good 'service' with some aggressive throttle, it should burn out the last crap in the system.

New EGR would have been R25k, new CAT quoted R16000.
Customer walked out with a bill of less than R5k.

    Happiness.

Some cars just age really well.
Had this old girl in a beautiful CLK350 convertable with just over 270kkm on behind her.
A little rough idle, and a convertable roof that, well, is not converting to anything.

Took her for a test drive. Rough idle and slow response... Well I have some suspension... Took the EGR valves.. Yes two of these pieces of (insert swear word here) and they were dirty as hell! And this from a Petrol.

So a good Clean, and a software deletion later, a completely different car.

The cats are a little more difficult to remove, so the client opted out for now.

Now we tackle the roof. The rear headrests popped, so we manually pushed these back with a strong wire and some maneuvering...

Okay now we have an open circuit error. This can be anything from a broken plug, loose connector, wires touching or as simple as a fuse.

Step one was to make sure the roof operates. Manually. Easy enough, if you where to take and where to let go..
So nothing stuck, time to go through the relays, fuses and connections.
Some more info from the client, someone worked there and after that... I hate this but at least it gave me an idea on where to start.

One plug was not secured. Okay one less error.
One relay and one fuse replacement later, the roof closes and for the first time in 6 months of other people asking scrupulous amounts of money and Not fixing it, the roof works a charm!

Happy client, and happy me. Love fault finding.....

Ps. There is so much oomph in this car, I was not gonna waste a client's money for a stage 1 remap. The egr deletion alone will bring back enough life in her.

Sometimes I have to wonder what the EGR systems on our fleet Haailakse must look like after 260,000 km of chugging along to work and back with a tool canopy full of heavy Gedores and very little TLC . .

My 2003 staan op 419 000km. Begin nou eers lekker ry.

All sorted.

Had a Volvo S60 T3 come in as a referral from one of my clients. Engine was rebuild after cooler leaked and sent water through the intake.
But after this a very rough idle jumping from 1200 - 500 up and down.

The initial diagnostic report came in with a book full of faults.
Cleared all and took for a drive, almost all them came back.
Spent about an hour on the car resetting throttle valves, cam timing and and and.

Got the idle to near perfect, and one really happy customer.

Will do a cat and EGR delete for him in the near future!

Rebuilding an engine on a new car is no possible without proper diagnostic capabilities Click image for larger version.
