The sand in the Caprivi runs like water when it gets very hot. I love sand driving and riding with my bike. And I think the sand in this area is some of the most " high viscosity '' like sand ever. It flows like oil around your tyres.

I love Nambwa say hi to Charlie the Hippo, hopefully nobody stands on your spot when you arrive.

I arrived there after a group entered with 2 x LC V8 76's 1 x Hilux and a VW Syncro Bus. All of them towing.

The poor VW was scraping from the starts The bus got towed in by a LC and his trailer by the Hilux. They chewed the track up badly. I was on my own with my wife and 2 kids and our Infanta Safari Trailer.

The section to Fort Doppies and past is fine, then you hit the longer forrested dunes, gorgeous area.

I run my tyres at 1.2 bars on the bakkie and 1 bar on the trailer. Low range 3- 4 th and try not to change too much. This is for a manual diesel bakkie.

I have stood next to a 2.8 Hilux 4x4 Auto that was run in Hi Range that the gearbox and transfer case was boiling!!!!. You cannot go too fast so 3rd low will be fine most of the way. The big thing here is the sand doesn't let go even downhill it sucks power and momentum from the vehicle.

Jip agree, and just to add. The park rangers here and Kaudum gets resupplied with 4x4 and 6x6 Actros trucks. When they get stuck they use branches and logs under the tyres to get out. Hitting there buried branches and logs have caused most of my punctures in the area.

I can confirm this. Drove in yesterday around 3pm. Soil is mostly compact with a very few places where you'll actually need to engage 4x4. Easy drive in.
