I know, if I had been in the same situation, I would have shipped out of Port Sudan. It would be cheaper - and so much less dangerous than what they are now embarking on.
An update on this couple, they have reached N'Djamena. They were 4 days driving directly from the Sudan/Chad border to the capitol, so no stopping to see the sights it seems. They may not be totally mad, they were required to have a certified tour agency escort/guide them, who had their own vehicle.

Perhaps they didn't stop in the Ennedi or Zakouma for budgetary reasons.

Some time ago I enquired with STS about hiring them to guide us around Chad. Not cheap, but I would love to see the Ennedi someday, so I like seeing this small success story. Of course on the other end of the spectrum a French-Austrian was kidnapped there in October, but was at least subsequently released.

So far I don't think anyone has successfully done this, and at least one pretty savvy traveler did try, spending days working with a local tour agency to organize and eventually was denied. See post #12. If anyone is headed that way I don't think this is anything that can be counted on as a way through. Perhaps it will be proven so in time, just hasn't been yet.

I was in touch with the couple (kkdoe) who did drive through the Sudan to the Chad.

They wrote that they did sudan it on their own, no guide, as single car. They did feel well, did too wildcamp over there.

In Chad they did use/did plan to use an agency - Details may be lost on translation.

There are rumors about travellers who did the ethiopia agency "way" - but none of the travellers did a conformation about till today.

Please give confirmation of the “travellers who did the Ethiopia agency “way””.

The Polish/Belarusian couple seem to heading South towards the Central African Republic. I am fascinated how they will be able to post on Instagram or, indeed, remain so calm and optimistic.
