Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2.5 DI-D 2014

We just bought a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and it is stuck in 4H. It shows that is changes to 2H on the screen above the steering wheel but it shows 4H on the screen above the radio and the fuel consumption is very high. Can anyone please tell me what the problem may be?

I only have the four green lights with the center diff lock and rear difflock yellow lights. I am not sure about the screen above the radio?

And what do you think is high consumption? In town the generally do 11-12l/km and then open road can go as low as 8,5l/km

Jho, it does depend a lot on driving style, I tend to drive very sedately in town with our PJS, its a big heavy vehicle with a transfer case etc, it will never be good in town wrt fuel consumption

I also have a 2014 model and there is no 4x4 indicator above the radio, only the indicator by the speedo. Consumption for town driving is really poor, I get anything from 12L/100km to 16L/100km depending on distance and amount of stop/starts. Long distance highway driving I can get between 8.5-10L/100km and towing long distance around 11.5L/100km. I have had mine remapped at Mitsitech. If you are looking for an economical vehicle unfortunately the 2.5 DI-D is not it. I am happy if I can get around 550km out of a tank (65L) normal usage, town and highway combined, which puts it around 11.8L/100km average.

The difference in fuel consumption between 2H and 4H is very small.

Your transfer problem is not the cause.

Confirm whether the instruments report 4H and whether the vehicle is actually in 4H.

As per the above quotes, that is a 4H period for the fuel consumption graph.

If you are only getting 15L/100km on the open road, something else is at play here. As other noted, the difference in 4H and 2H in fuel consumption is pretty negligible.

I did a trip of 120km from Pretoria to Joburg and back yesterday and averaged 8.4L/100km or 11.9km/L. If you are getting 6km/L open road long distance then something is wrong, in town though that is normal. Take it to Mitsitech for a check up.

According to the photos your vehicle is in 2 wheel drive.
It is not stuck in 4H.
And dont ever believe the readout.
Check fuel consumption from full tank to filling up again and do the sum by hand.

Inthink the 4H on the indicator above the radio shows consumption for the past 4 hours (4H) and has nothing to do with the drive
