Good evening all,
Does anybody know if Giriyondo border post to Moz is open and up and running yet ?
Can’t seem to find any reliable info on our Government websites, as they seem quite outdated.
Thanks

Has anything possibly changed?
A friend wants to exit SA in Pafuri but enter again at Giriondo or vice versa.
Thank you for info.
Hi. It is open. We entered Kruger from Mozambique side last week after advice on this forum.
I will be giving more details shortly but it is open and very quick and efficient.
Hi Tannaman, can you give more details please. Especially on the route in Mozambique.
Much appreciated.
Jambo Jambo.
Herbert Smith wrote an excellent report on 19 /5 Bush to Sea.
I used his report extensively … thanks Herbert.
This forum is amazing for up to date help and advice. Eg Tony Weaver suggested going through Giriyonda gate and Ray Ray informed that it had just opened as we were in Tofu.
Firstly, travel in Moz was very easy, no police or official hassles at all but stick to speed limits.
We exited Gonarezhou at Chiqualaquala gate in no time at all and got diesel in Mapai from street vendor as pumps were dry.
Drove through Banhine… see Herbert report… and onto Morungulo.
The road is a slow track with middle mannetjie. We didn’t see another car for most of the trip.
The road was bad from Funhalouro to Massinga.
From Tofu we took the EN 1 to Chonguene, just short of Xai Xai. And from there it was an Easy tarr secondary road all the way to Massingir Dam.
We stayed a night at Campismo Aguia so can’t comment if one need to in order to cross into Kruger.
The border post as quick and efficient.
Please ask if you have specific questions. All in all, very easy travelling in Mozambique.
I recall a question about driving from Gonarezhou to Pomene in December. I can’t comment on the roads when wet. I would avoid going to the coast via Funhalouro and either go from Mapai south to Joao on the tarr road or check with Herbert about heading north from Banhine via Zinave and then to the coast.
hope this helps.

Nice to hear Giriyondo is open again...

I love Mozambique!
The most stress free entrance into Moz from my experience.
Thanks all.
My friend unfortunately left before the posts were made but I will capture here what his experience was from Giriyondo to the Limpopo river and up towards Pafuri and back into RSA.
He found the borderpost to be easy although it took him 1 hour because the system was down to issue him a VISA. Thereafter he traveled south east and saw animals only for the first 30km in the Limpopo National Park.
He stayed overnight at the Sandalo Camp where ablutions are being built. No provisions are available except in the tuck shops outside of the park.
He saw no other vehicles on route to Pafuri along the Limpopo river.
At Pafuri he was charged the full entrance fee of R440 even though he was in transit. SA side had no Customs, but they stamped his Carnet in any case.
Hope this also helps someone else.
BTW, he travelled solo and never felt threatened.
Yes please I would also want to know.
What is needed to cross the border to Moz these days in regards to Covid? We went there last December via Lebombo and I can tell you that Giriyondo and Pafuri is a breeze in comparison.
What exactly is needed in regards to Covid now that the dust is settling.

Anyone who recently went thru Giriyondo? I well have to use it to get into Moz in exactly 18 days... Any info?
I love Mozambique!
Last time I had to use that border they were trying every scam in the book.....
They wanted a "Police clearance" for the vehicles....or the friendly SA Police would stamp your docs for a mere R500
Then they claim that you are only permitted US$50 worth of food.....or pay R500
Then they "forget" to stamp one of the passports.....of course the fine is R500
I did not fall for any of these schenanigans....had a printed copy of the the border regulations and permitted import amounts with me (can't remember where I got it) but they hushed us along very quickly when the next group arrived......
The dirt road was pretty bad to Massangir, from there on the tar was not much better and very slow going.
I strongly believe that if you have any choice to rather use the Komati border post, it is fast, efficient and with the new Maputo ring road a far better option.
There is no task too simple for some people to complicate !
Ford Figo 2016
We went through beginning of Jan and the process was quick but as stared the dirt road and tar road is terrible and that is in total around 140km
I did the road from Xai Xai - Giriyondo on 25 Jan and have to agree - both that tar and dirt road are quite bad.
We departed Xai Xai at 06:00 with a Conqueror Companion in tow and made it to Giriyondo border at 13:30.
The customs process leaving Moz as well as entering SA was really smooth, officials are super friendly and helpful and all in all took about 20mins. On the Moz side they will ask for the entry payment receipt from the Limpopo National park so make sure you keep it if you are driving from Moz into SA. No Covid tests or vaccine requirements. We were the only vehicle going through the border.

Yes, Border is open and working. I used it last week. Dirt road through Park is currently in better condition than the Tar road.
What do you mean by "Booking" in Limpopo park ?
You actually want to stay in Park on Moz side, or are you asking about the Park Fee to go through the Park ?
Baie dankie vd terugvoer Andre.
