VW will tell you that the gearbox, transfer case and diff fluids are for life. They only change it if repairs are made on those items.
In other words, it does not fall under regular servicing schedule.
However, some VW places will do it on request for your own pocket.
The procedure to do it DIY or by an indy is simple and straight forward. You can do the gearbox fluid change through the cooler hoses in the front without stripping the gear box pan- this will mean that only the half the fluid get done at one time. You would need to repeat the process twice over a couple of weeks to replace most of the fluid. Diff and transfer case is a simple drain and fill. make sure you remove the fill plug first because if you remove the drain plug first and you find the fill pug is stuck- you have a problem.

Also, buy the fluids from VW or reputable suppliers like Ravenol. Liqud molly at Goldwagen have only the gearbox oil available but no the others.
