What?, no plans yet to chuck a perfectly good running engine

    It's a 2009
    170,000 kms
    Manual

    Ironman gas shocks
    Winch
    Warn spotlights
    Canopy
    Some a line 16" rims

    265/70
    Cooper all terrains

    From. Gauteng
    Then Cape Town
    Now Port Elizabeth

It was a bit of a funny deal as the owner basically got most of the ad wrong :

He said it was a 2010, 155,000 kms, warn winch and bashplate
    Full ironman suspension
    20 inch rims
    New battery
    Etc

I bought it over Whatsapp pictures

When it arrived my OCD made a never ending list of the things that were wrong

Anywho that's all water under the bridge

One of the issues was the big sound system didn't work properly:

    The RCA cables were broken.
So I had strip the seat out and vacuum up a few kg's of kids toys and food.

Then strip the amplifier and remove the broken parts.

I found a decent head unit and installed it on the dash where the Mitsubishi barometer/compass/thermometer/trip computer was installed.

When it arrived? So you paid, and then a different vehicle shows up? You didn't go fetch it?

You're a better human than me. Hopefully you didn't pay more than 160

    I paid.
The same vehicle arrived on a truck.

The seller isn't a car guy, so doesn't know much.
Example: I asked him where the winch controller is, he said what is that?

I asked a lot of questions.
I found out about the year, kms etc before I saw it.

The seller gave me a small discount but not really worth the discrepancies.

    I paid less than that.

    Overall I'm happy.

Yes I have a few things u need to sort out but they are really minor things.

I did an engine filter and fluid service

The air filter was very dirty.

Engine oil was +- 1.5 litres low.

I can't believe how much oil the 4m41 takes: 9.5 litres compared to 5 litres for the v6 and V8 l.

I also fitted a new cabin air filter.
Triton's have the slot for a filter in the fan but don't have the filter factory fitted.

The fuel filter was a tricky one to remove and to pump fuel of fuel.

A bit of a learning curve compared to a petrol.

I also threw some Midas injector cleaner into the tank. Click image for larger version.

The next thing that was making my OCD itch: all the yellow, hot incandescent bulbs.

Lucky for me I had a few cool white led bulbs floating around.

    I bought a winch controller.

The winch spools in but not out.
I think it is a bad negative connection.

    It is an EWK 8000
I want to sell it and fit my WARN winch from the colt. Click image for larger version.

I went to Buffelsfontein 4x4 for an offroad test drive.

    I got a bit stuck.

It's weird for me to go from a petrol to a diesel.

The first impression is that there is no power.

With the V8 I could just use the revs, with the diesel I must use the boost.

Saying all that it went everywhere the colt went.
Except where it was too low.

So I need to get a decent bashplate and maybe some taller tyres.

The canopy wasn't a hindrance but I just had to make sure it didn't hit any trees. Click image for larger version.

When I fetch the Triton from the transport company it had about 60 kms on the fuel remaining range.

I filled the tank the brim and it took +- 52 litres.

That surprised me as I thought Triton's had a 75 litre tank.

    Oh well

    I drove round PE.
towed a boat to Sundays River
    Did a small 4x4 trip

    Then I filled up again
    Fuel range +- 40 kms
60 litres to the filler neck
I had to shake the bakkie to get the air out the filler neck. Only added about 1 litre to get the 60 litres.

    My trip kms: 418
    Litres used: 59.90
Consumption: 14.33 litres per 100 km

Not fantastic but certainly much better than the colt V8 at 22 - 25 litres per 100 km for a similar trip.

I was expecting 12 litres per 100 km.

My research tells me I could get use about 1 - 2 litres per 100 km less if I blank the EGR valve, remove the catalytic converter and do a free flow exhaust.

I can definitely get used to a cheaper fuel bill, but the power delivery and silent exhaust is gonna take a while. Click image for larger version.
