Default Ford's new 3L V6 Diesel "Lion" Engine

I think that Ford have hit it out of the park with the new Ranger & Everest in terms of design and specs. I am a big 6cyl diesel fan and that is the one I would go for. However, I have read that it is the "Lion" engine of Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4 fame ... the one with the crankshaft issues. Are any of you aware of changes that Ford made to the motor to prevent the same issue?

As far as i know they have redesigned the crank, bearings etc, it is used in the F150.

Thanks Predator, that's very good news. I see they have already discontinued the diesel option in the F150 (nothing to do with a crank issue as far as I am aware).

The Yanks are not very fond of diesel vehicles, not like us. Maybe thats the reason.

Spiceman, not completely true. They love diesels with huge displacement. They love to say: No replacement for displacemnt.
So, the large power stroke diesels like the 7.2 lt V8 is their preference.

I still don't understand the engine choice, i was 110% sure VW would just ship batches and batches of their well loved and well proven 3.0TDi to the Ford factories to bolt into the top models, why the decision to switch to something with a known history of problems?

I understand the economics of letting Ford build the bakkie and in return letting VW build them both a little panel van, but why not take the best bits from both brands extensive lists of components to try make the next product better than all the competition? R&D on the VW motor has surely paid for itself 10 times over seeing as its been around in one form or another since like 2004 and they've had nearly 20 years to get the formula right...

Also holding my head in despair regarding this decision by VW. I can understand that Ford will punt their (sometimes unreliable) powertrains.

But.. they are not using the VW, they are using the one from Ford/PSA and has been in service in various forms also from 2004 with even more R&D..

I read somewhere that VW opted to drop the 3.0 V6 motor in the new vehicles as there was emissions issues (stricter emissions every damn year!). I could be far of the mark, but I am sure some forum expert has more input

Whatever, but building an Amarok that is basically a Ford with some Tupperware mods and a VW badge on it seems pretty much of a pointless money-wasting exercise to me. I certainly will not be buying an Amarok with a Ford drivetrain.

Dead serious Petri. All the "Amaroks" will be have Ford engines and full drive trains.

Gonna go the same route as the mascara Navara (Merc). No VW fan will want it with the Ford drivetrain.
