I am not a Ford or Rand Lover driver at all and not slating the brands at all...But

Please explain to me how a overtightened Cambelt can cause a Cam pulley to snap . The sheer forces required to do that is just phenomenal. I would like to see a man take a pulley like that ...placed in a vice and break it the way they snapped in pics in this thread. I think you would need a serious amount of torque and a moerske long power bar to snap that pulley. So in my humble opinion I think that a over tightened tensioner is a lot of hogwash .
I have seen Belts that were stripped bare of the teeth because of a Cam seizure ...or a lifter seizure ...on a few engines . But have never seen a cam pulley broken like this .
My money would be on a Camshaft seizure

Something is causing a catastrophic seizure of some internal part and that is the cause of the snapped pulley ...Or the pulley is made of marshmallows . It seems that nobody has opened one of these engines to actually see what the cause is of these failures ? And the manufacturer would most probably like to keep it that way.

I believe it is not the rotational torque that breaks it but rather the back and forth bending.

For context on my statement. We tested it on my TDV6 when I did the cambelt. With dial gauges on both cam gears. When exceeding the tension limit the cam gears and more so the driver side one, the top starts to flex towards the engine and the bottom away. It is very very little but still there. I suspect the slight bending back and forth weakens the spokes on the gear to the point of failure, kind of like flexing a piece of wire from side to side.

If set to the mid to lower limit of the tension there is no flex in the gear.

I hear you ....but under acceleration..or load ...how much force is on that pulley ? If you can bend it like that ....it really is made out of S**t

If what you say is spot on then it is a simple fix just to beef up the pulley . Would be interesting to see a old pulley compared to the one on a new engine installed on a replacement engine .

New engine or new sub assembly? It would be interesting to know how long the process takes in this case it being a Ford badged version. A friends Amarok version took close on 3 months to get repaired. I think there may have been a bit of spite involved from the manufacturer or dealer as he made quite the fuss on Facebook regarding his experience. The moment he got it back he traded it on a well known "Japanese" brand. Bridges burnt.

The Ford Lion engine is like Zuma, just problems, but still popular. Why would anyone buy a vehicle with the Ford Lion motor and think it will suddenly be reliable? It is well documented everywhere how unreliable it is, yet people think the VW badge will fix it. I’m too stupid to understand it.
