Now you can service the Ford at VW and VW at Ford. More service centers. As long as VW keeps the price the same as Ford it will sell.

VW has some excellent 4wd drive trains on hand, so the AWD was a choice not a necessity, it reflects the needs of the customer (majority) and optimises towards that. I guess the same argument can be applied to the shared platform in general, so we will see if VW gambles correctly or not on that. I for one won't be buying a rebadged ranger, but I may very well in future buy a current gen Amarok (especially the V6) if I can find one at the right price. I have said it before and will say it again, my predication is that the very last V6 "original" amarok will fetch a high premium in years to come.
For now we don't know what the pricing structure and specs will look like (as far as I know), so it is difficult to comment, but I think VW will loose a bunch of die hard fans with this move, I also think a bunch of people won't care and will still buy the amarok, but it will sell worse than the current gen.
On a side note, I see a lot of ford fans taking this criticism from VW fans quite personally, which I think is unnecessary. Ford make nice vehicles, it is just a pity their dealers are so horrendously bad, and I say this having owned 2 Fords personally with about 8 in total in my immediate family...

And that is, where some might want to rather buy the same product from their VW dealer, whom they know, whom they and their family, have a decades long business relationship with and get good service, possibly discount, etc. rather than getting involved with a (Ford) dealer, whom they don't know.

Thats a fair point, it would be interesting to get input from the VW indies that have to work on these rebadged fords when the time comes. Having worked quite a bit on VW/Audi products myself (amateur but I like to DIY where I can), they do seem to do things in a specific way, which may not carry through with the ford underpinnings that come with the platform.

Just the thought of that motor going kaboom will send a lot of tears to your eyes...if the 3.0 petrol turbo version will be available that will be my choice...
And expect the VW even if its a Ford clone to be more expensive than the Ford...VW love giving you a base price BUT then add the extras on the list making it more.

Petrol engine is Raptor only and VW will not be getting a Raptor equivalent.

Indeed and it will be reflected in the price as such.
The whole drive train and suspension setup will be bespoke to that model.
All manufacturers have the tech to build engines like that and fit it into any car.
The next gen AMG 63 engines will be hybrid, 2L 4cyl engines, making around 400kw......

As DiscoMat said above - i love my D4 engine and will probably be selling the other cars and getting the Everest with this power stroke engine.

I think the "Platinum" Everest V6 Diesel is going to interest ex D4 / D3 LR owners as it has slightly more space and has a good 4x4 drive train. I have used our Everest in some rough places on the Farm and it performs very well. Can not wait to see the new one. I think the Ranger WildTrack also with V6 diesel is also going to be a good seller. I hear rumors of an Everest coming out in Wildtrack format as well. Then it will be a great overlander.
There is the debate SUV or Double cab for overlanding? Personal choice I would say. As long as it has the V6 Diesel motor.
BruceHun can this motor be fitted to a D4 as a rebuild?
