Yes that is for sure and I understand. But I don't know why they had to develop 'n brand new Amarok.
There is not much wrong with with the current Amarok. I reckon a very extended face-lift with complete new body and interior design and updated electronics would have done the trick. They had to do it for the new one in any case.
Then fix some of few known issues, retune engines, add a couple of other things like low range, and then some other nice to have luxuries and off you go.
Yes maybe some people would not have been happy with that and they would have lost some sales. But a lot less than they are going to loose now.
And I really don't believe they will attract many new buyers.

Maybe off the thread but 95% 4x4’s sold today day either pavement crawlers or average offroad track. I’ve done a 4x4 trail the the guys on tv did with the Amarok . Any grade higher low range or not you going to need recovery gear. These electronic control more important than low range as said 95% of the time.
Let's try again...
ALL NEW ....AS IN 100%... FORD RANGERS WILL HAVE LOW RANGE!
ONLY THE V6's will have an AWD mode TOO for paved surfaces....

The Lion Engine issues were only really present in the LR offr. Posssibly due to LR tuning the system to provide lots more low down torque for better off road performance. The motor was sold in the Ford Territory in reasonable numbers. An internet search brings out gearbox issues but i could not find the crankshaft outrage in the Landy circles.
Since then the engine was redesigned with new bearings and crankshaft before being introduced in to the F-150. This clearly worked as I have not yet heard of a New Discovery (Disco 5) or the F-150 having crank issues. In the D% in some markets thye are getting 225kW out this motor.
My D4 has this motor in its post 2014 iteration. It is smooth and powerful driving my Landy over long distances as quick as conditions will allow. I really like driving this motor and plan to keep the car as long as possible. With COVID dodging (driving instead of flying) I am clocking up 60 000km a year currently so its adding up quickly. Still wold recommned this motor as a fine drive. TROuch wood no enginee issues to ate. 165 000km clocked.

I'm not a petrol head, and actually know very little of these engines. However. I remember in the late '80 I heard that Rolls Royce used a Chev auto gearbox.. I was shocked,, i thought every screw was uniquely RR.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_4L80-E_transmission this is even from 1990 onwards.
So it seems that collaborations between manufacturers has been going on for a while, and why not.. if there is an excellent product, why reinvent the wheel.
I drive a Discovery 4 and before that I had the D3 , and I absolutely love the car and the engine.
I just whished they could have sorted out the Crank problem, as it was like this monster lurching to strike.
So, if the Lion motor is used in the Ford, that must mean that they have sorted it out and then Ford and VW can look forward to an amazing power train.
If the best of every manufacturer can be used in every car, surely it must make for a better car, maybe it will loose a bit of identity, but I'm all for reliability, efficiency and effective use of technology

Boldly Going Nowhere
Ford forged the crankshaft and upgraded bearings for the engine before it was used in the F150.
They call it the Ford 3.0 Power Stroke engine.

Hope that helps.

Don't you mean that no right thinking individual will want to pay an extra R50 - R100k for some Tupperware and a VW badge?
Mercedes priced their bakkie out of the market, because everyone knew it was a rebadged Nissan and not enough people were prepared to pay the badge premium.
VW Amarok V6 is an AWD in any case, not a 4WD so they would not have the right drivetrain already developed for the engine.
If VW price their Amarok right then they will sell. If they pull a Mercedes, then the Amarok will be dead in the water pretty soon.
That's just my 2 cents.

Based on the research I have done that is the case. I say this holding my wooden desk tightly in my right hand.
In my experience all mechanical things need care. The Machines I sell and support are amazing and last for more than 20 years with ease when maintained correctly. They can be destroyed quite quyickly with no care and inaproipriate use. Find a good Landy whisperer, there are a number in SA. Have you car serviced regularly and address special requirements like timing belts etc timeously.
