Driving to KZN - alternate route

As stated in another thread, strongs to everyone in KZN.

We are driving to KZN over the weekend and wanted to take a different route, other than the typical N3. With washouts, floods etc. please give any info on this last part of the route.


Is it still a viable option?

Any advice will be appreciated.

On what day will you be driving down?

What time do you expect to be on this route?

Last time I have driven this route was 3 weeks ago. It is scenic enough but most certainly a daylight only route.

I expect lots of rubble and sand on the surface after the rains, potholes will be plenty as well as many speedhumps.

Your route seem clear. Only issue is if you accidently hit the umhlali bridge, but I heard it's open.

Will be driving on Friday from Randburg, starting very early morning, so will probably do that last part around lunch.

Yes, that road is open, I drove it this morning.

His route is to Ballito, going North you will be blocked by the Umhlali bridge
