Default RAV4 gen 3 tyre recommendations

    Hi all,
I recently bought a gen 3 (2007) RAV4 4wd. The tyres on it are fine, but rear ones up for replacement soon. Anybody have some good recommendations for good tyres with a bit more grip than standard on-road tyres but not terrible on fuel economy?
    Cheers!

I would go for Dunlop AT 5.
Excellent tire. Great grip in all conditions, good handling and really quiet.

With the AWD just pay attention to different tyres and sizes that you run front and back, you don't want any wind up in the drive train.
I for one don't do two only on my wife's RAV, I prefer to do all 4 same time.

If you rotate and keep an eye on them they are normally worn the same when at the end of their life. Basic tyre maintenance.

Then there is SUV specific tyres or Light truck (bakkie) tyres.
Most SUV vehicals including the RAV can fit Light truck tyres, no problem.
I like to stick to SUV specific as I feel that they have been developed for SUV use, lighter tyre, less flex in the side wall?

On my wife's RAV I run Michellin Primacy 225/65R17, they are a bit more expensive than other brands but has always give me very good service.
She is on her 3rd set now and have got 80k km out of every previous set before, and not one puncture so far.

Work out your cost per km on different brands to help you decide.

Thanks for the advice! Will be mindful of the tyre sizes to avoid unnecessary wear and tear. Dunlop AT5 look like a good set, and reasonably priced.

@Gulliver2937 - What would be your intended use for the Rav? How much highway/town driving vs unpaved road?
Will you be doing a lot of offroad or merely once/twice a year?

I will second that choice. They have proven good so far for us, but still to be more intensively tested.
These are seen to be a 70/30 onroad bias tyre, which made sense for our usage.

With regards to mixing & matching tyres on a 4WD, definitely something to keep in mind when doing this exercise.

What did the Michellin options cost you per tyre out of interest? I am a fan of Michellin, but only been using the Pilot Sport family on the other cars.
