Cool Velocity AP remap on SCV8

I was bored yesterday, so I ordered the VAP remap: https://www.velocityap.com/product/r...-fullsize-svr/

    Stock: 495 HP, 510 HP, 550 HP, 575 HP -> = 605 HP (with tune)
Stock: 495 HP, 510 HP, 550 HP, 575 HP -> = 620 HP (with upper pulley, and tune)
Stock: 495 HP, 510 HP, 550 HP, 575 HP -> = 645 HP (with upper and lower pulleys, and tune)

Cost was €850 for the remap.

I might still get the Upper Pulley, those figures look a bit mental

Will update once I've installed it

Gearbox/driveline can take it, people have extracted some ridonculous outputs from the AJV8 without issues.

After chatting with the chaps at VAP, I've decided to go for the upper pulley - the biggest reason being the costs involved: $319 for upper pulley vs $949 for the crank pulley.

So after installation I should be at 460kW, which is quite a bump from 375kW.

In preparation for the mods, I sourced supercharger oil from Ravenol in Salt River @ R725 for a litre.

The oil refill is only +-250ml, but they don't sell it in smaller volumes.

    Spec sheet attached.

Are you going to attempt the oil change yourself? A writeup would be nice.

Haha, no, I'm taking it to Auto Excellence, will spend the day there with them.

There are a few videos on YT on how to do it. The most difficult part is to get a thin enough pipe that can reach to the bottom of the oil 'pan', and then you just syringe it out.

Ahh our other branch, im with Auto Excellence in Centurion.

Reason im asking, ive never seen it done on the 5.0 SC.
Ive also never attempted to do it.

All the videos I have seen are for the 4.2 SC motor.

Uploaded the remap to the car this morning and went for a 40km drive.

First impression was disappointing: it didn't really change much in the car, felt just the same as the OEM map.

Then on the way back home I took a detour via a deserted road just outside of town, where I, let's say, drove enthusiastically...

Holy !!! Once you give it beans, it really comes alive, especially beyond 3000rpm/140kmh, where it feels like there's a second engine taking over, with a massive growl.

I did a couple of runs, and the responsiveness and the smooth power delivery is quite addictive.

Overall, I would say this remap won't be noticeabled in 90% of normal driving, and only when you push it does it show itself.

Considering the bang for buck, I would say it's not worth it

Installed the pulley this morning, it was pretty straightforward, although the OEM one took a bit of convincing to come off.

And then we went for a test drive...

The power delivery is simply amazing - smooth and linear-like, I chickened out at 2x the speed limit, and there was plenty of power still to come.

It's not a brutal power delivery like the OEM map, it's much smoother, and lulls you into a false sense of security. Until you look at the speedo, that is, and realise how fast you're going.

Still doubtful that the gains justify the price, but hey, we only live once, right 😁

The new pulley is supposed to be smaller? Correct?

How much smaller is it? Doesn't look any smaller from the pictures but pictures can be deceiving

Yep, we were also wondering, because it looked the same size. But when we measured, and it is 3mm smaller than the OEM one.

VAP claims it adds 1.5 psi to the boost (with the remap).
