I find it a little hard to believe that the 172 has sold 30 times more than any other general-aviation plane.

Also, a quick Google search reckons about 13 300 Merlin-engined P51's were built, so why isn't that on the list?

    Maybe those weren't civilian airplanes?

1700 PC-12's were delivered by October 2019 already and it is not on the list, which should have placed it at least 5th.

As far as I know the Pilatus PC-12 is a civilian aircraft. There were a few military variants, but it was originally developed as a civilian aircraft and appears most are used for civilian purposes.

I think it may come down to who owns them and what they are used for.

The PC-12 is widely used by many military and non commercial agencies, not for combat, but as transporters or surveilance or medivac purposes.

Yeah, it would help if we knew what their criteria was, but it seems from the article (paragraph 2) that they were only looking at civil aircraft, regardless of their intended use. After all, al the other aircraft on that list have also been used for the reasons mentioned.

A most magnificent piece of kit. Virginia runway can look pretty short when sitting in a PC 12, yet not even halfway down and you are already climbing out at a rate of knots. With my buddies. I am not a pilot. Although I often ask if I can drive - some other planes as well - the standard response is always that I should make a departure of a naughty nature.

Around 80 Bar ZAR for a new one. I am hoping for a ride in a PC 24 soon, basically almost the same cabin as PC 12, but twin jets.

Great planes. Just the thing to global hop with the family. And it is single-pilot certified.(not sure the case for commercial use - but definately for private use).

I realized it was used as military spotter and trainer, but it was developed as a general aviation trainer in the early 30's
