    Default Land Cruiser 79 @dusty_cruizer

Morning guys, I can't stop smiling!
My dream vehicle arrived yesterday afternoon at 5pm.

Land Cruiser 79 V8 Double Cab in Beige

I'll be doing loads of mods a lot of them DIY so I'll share them on here like I did with my Rangers.

    Keep up to date here:
    https://www.instagram.com/dusty_cruizer/

Thing is me and my wife had a 2 week, 4000km trip planned before we knew the Cruiser was coming. Leaving today, less than 24hrs after receiving the vehicle.
Obviously I won't be going in the Ranger anymore so very little time to make the Cruiser trip ready.

Last night I fitted a few bits:
Frontrunner centre console with Mobicool Fridge
USB sockets powered straight from the main battery
Ran 16mm2 wires from main battery to loadbin
Cut a piece of ply for the load bin floor
    Mounted fridge
    Mounted 2nd battery/DC/DC Charger
    Water tank and pump

This will all be tidies up later.

This morning I'm having a tonneau cover made and my tyres and suspension fitted.
Perhaps also the steering guard and recovery points.

This was the minimum I felt needed for the trip. We're not camping and spending 11 night in different Sanparks accommodation.

Follow our trip on the instagram above and I'll go into more detail on the mods on there as well.

But today it's rush rush rush, want to leave at 1pm so lots to do before we hit the road!

Wow, enjoy. You are a man on a mission, and a pretty ambitious 'overnight' build. Hope the trip goes off without a hitch and the drinks stay cold on that board in the bak!

Congrats on an awesome vehicle and many many happy years of enjoyment. One of the most underrated engines those 1VDJ single turbo setups. Enjoy every kilometer behind the wheel.

    Just love that color.
    You have one shot.
    Make it count.

Very Nice. 70 Series Cruisers is not for everyone`s love and liking. I do not blame people for that. But man if you like it and can live with it nothing comes close.

Baie geluk met die Cruiser . In dieselfde plek. 2 weke gelede ook ons 79 DC V8 70th Edition ontvang. Ons moet gesels
Years ago I drove a 1995 110 Defender 300 Tdi from Cape Town to London (www.bosmansbigadventure.com) and loved the vehicle, which did that overland trip 3 times the last I heard of it. For nostalgic reasons and to continue the adventure, I recently bought another one, a 110 Defender 300 Tdi (1997) model with 345k on the clock. Mechanically it is quite sound for such an old vehicle. Unfortunately the previous owners badly messed up the wiring and hacked the aircon and other parts out of it. This is going to be a project Landie...

Me and the wife did our 2 week, 4000km trip and it was awesome! It would not have been the same in the Ranger and it just confirmed that we made the right choice with this vehicle.

That feeling of never being scared to go down a track is exactly what what I wanted. If another vehicle can go there, I should be able to without having to worry about damage.
Gone are the days of just knowing the belly of the Ranger is going to hit somewhere, at some time.

CPT - George 1nt - Cradock (Mountain Zebra 3nts) via Prins Alfred Pass - Clarens (Golden Gate Highlands 3nts, Old Mill Drift 2nts) - Kimberley (Mokala 2nts) - Bellville (home 1nt) - Langebaan (inlaws 1nt) - St Helena Bay (3nts)

4000km and loved every minute, not even the long stretches tired me out like I thought it would, but I do also let my wife drive a bit.

Motor loosned up along the way and she runs beautifully at 110/120km/h (GPS speed)

Fuel consumption over 5000km 6.5km/l, doing 110km/h I get 7.3km/l. I'll be doing the 2nd/5th gearbox mod when I do the clutch and that will put me in the 8's on the open road.
    ECU repap/tune should also help
    I just want 190kw 700nm, nothing stupid.

Tyres and suspension are awesome, no OME/Ironman setup will ever flex like this, I'm sure of that.
Tyres are very quiet and road noise is no issue.
I have balanced and rotated at 5000km and will continue at that interval. All 5 wheels, figure of 8 rotation.

First week home after that I had a rear GobiX bumper and De Graaf Exhaust fitted at R&D Offroad.

Fitted 1st Alignment's battery bracket with their help. I did the wiring and fitted the Ctek behind the grill. I'll run my solar wires through the snorkel when I get a roofrack.

Fitted a reverse camera, a light bar I had lying around and DIY mudflaps.

Next weekend we went to Gifberg and I got to test those lockers on that one big decent/climb. Very impressed with the vehicle's ability.

When I get home again it will be time to build a custom aluminium cattle rail, shaped with 3 doors and I'll have a binbox fitted on the RHS.

Trying my best to order Ubolt High Clearance plates to finish off she suspension for now.

Coming along nicely, can't wait for the canopy, water tank, geyser, gas bottle etc to be fitted so I can go Camping

I have not done this yet, but it drops your revs at 120km/h by +- 500rpm

I'll be doing this mod, along with the clutch and then a mild remap.

I'm hoping to have this done in the next month or 3, I'll be sure report back

I finally decided to sell my 2018 VX-R Cruiser tonight for a new 76. So while searching the forum to find some ideas, technical detail and answers to my agony with the decision is this thread one to follow I think

I am also considering to do a few ''upgraders" besides the normal cosmetic stuff like bull bar, rear bumper, suspension, etc

For now do I have a few questions

    1) How does the rear door handle the weight of the spare wheel over time and on especially on dirt and bad roads?
    2) To change the 2nd and 5th gear also draws my attention due to the rpm drop, possible fuel saving....but how will this effect the gear box when towing?
    3) How does the changes of these gears effect your warrantee?

    Thanks guys
