Happy with my Bennet Reed, not a super fancy vacuum, but works well, filters are available and doesn't cost an arm and a leg... I am trying to think how many years it is old, and it must be at least 4 or 5, but not 100% sure.

This forum really has a wide range of knowledge, with this in mind, PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH BUYING A VACCUM...
I have no clue about vaccum cleaners and SWAMBO wants to buy a new one.
Does anyone know which is a decent brand of Vaccum cleaners?
Bennet read and Karcher are two brands that i am looking at, but would appreciate any inputs.
TIA

Numatic.
who is going to use it?
We had a bennet read a while ago, decent for the price but simply not up to a typical abuse you get from a domestic worker.
For you and swambo to use it will do just fine.

I went though this 2 years ago...
Did a lot of research and ended up buying a Miele CX1.
At first I thought the price is crazy, but when I started to look at the detail you will quickly realize why you pay the premium.
It has soft start
speed adjustment
telescopic handle with very manouvrable head at the bottom
the suction head is properly designed
you het a powered suction head specifically for animal hair
Hepa filter and good filtration
auto retractable cable
The suction hose cannot get a "kink" in, you can twist it which ever way you want or step on it, it just jumps back to normal
bagless
soft rubber wheels
it can work on its wheels or stand upright
very quite
I am very happy with the performance, link to a video below:

Ford Ranger XLT Double Cab 4x4
Auto Union 1000 (DKW)
Pyga Stage Max
My Miele is 16 years old. 90% of usage is by a domestic.
It has fallen down a few stairs...... I know because I was the operator at that stage.
Only items I have replaced is the pipe and the big brush head used for floors. Bags and parts easily available.
Miele isexpensive though.
But it a toss up between R6000 or so now and be done for 20 years. Or R2000 every year

Karcher.
I thought Dyson was the new 'it' child in the world of vacuum cleaners.

We have an old Samsung that the domestic uses and is just hanging in there. We bought a Candy a short while ago(for when the Samsung dies) as it was on special from the importers. It is very much stronger..

I own a Miele vacuum and sell Miele appliances.
We have had a vacuum in for repairs that was 34 years old.
They are not made for fine dust and water.
The rest - just goes

I bought a Karcher WD4 5 years ago, use it often, works well. Replacement bags available at Makro, Game, Takealot, or Karcher themselves. Bags are around R200 for 4, they last long.

Holy smokesNot too surprised at it lasting that long, but still that is a good innings for a vacuum clear.
Mine has seen it's share of building, grinding and drilling dust. Nothing escapes from it's bag, but after doing a bout of vacuuming a lot of building dust, I always replace the bag and filters.

Buy bagless, and a brand that has spares available. We have a Karcher, quiet, and works damn well.
Have a Dyson and 8 yrs still going strong, no bags to worry about
