Default Timing belt kit- 3.8 V6 Mivec

    Hi Alll

My Paj will be due for a timing belt replacement in the near future and looking for a complete kit.
Are there any brands to watch out for? Mitsubishi themselves are just too pricy.

    The kit should include:
    1x pump assembly,
    1x timing belt
    201 teeth x 32mm,
    1x timing belt tensioner bearing,
1x idler bearing, 2x cam seals,
    1x Hydraulic tensioner

    Thanks
    Pieter Greyling

    Mine is also getting close.

I was thinking of taking the Paj to Arnold at Mitsitech.

Currently sitting on 265 000km so 5000km to go.

Its a pricy job because of the labor. I might ask Arnold if I could buy a kit from him.

Mine also due soon. Now sitting on 175000. What are the intervals ? 90 000 or 100 000? did not buy new and my book shows it was last replaced on 100 000.

    Intervals are 90 000km.

You will likely see most V6 Pajeros come up for sale very cheap close to this interval.

I bought mine on 180 000 and negotiated the timing belt service into the sale with the dealer.

Waterpump is not part of the service schedule by Mitsu as far as I am aware.

I am budgeting on replacing mine with the 270 000km service at Arnolds.

That kit looks like a good deal.
Have you had a look if Aramex Global shopper is willing to ship the package?

    Update:

Installed a new timing belt, both pulleys and tensioner as per the manual. It took way longer than anticipated but wanted to make sure everything was right especially timing marks and torque settings.

Started it up and everything was butter smooth, drove around sedately for a day and all was as it should be.
Then Sunday evening a very unnerving rattle developed, almost a knock sound. Revs up fine and didn't have issues with power. Drove it home gingerly and now Im afraid to start it.

Please help, what could have caused this? All was well after startup and about 80km.

Ive read one or two reports of bad tensioners from factory, hoping this would be the case.

Ive just been through numerous youtube videos and spotted a comment noting the tensioner pulley was installed upside down in the video. This has me very suspicious as I referred to this video during installation.

It appears I may have found the issue as per above. Will tear everything apart and redo this weekend.

Note: Tension pulley pins te be under bolt.
