Please show us your towing combinations and give a little info on how the towing experience is with the combo. (Forgive me if such a thread exists already)

    I'll get it started.

    First up was with a T31 2.0dCi.
The car towed well. I could keep a speed of 100km/h on long uphills with no issues.
Overtaking was more difficult, fuel consumption was bad, around the 8km/L mark. A headwind causes some issues with power/fuel.
All in all, the experience was very good.

    Then came the Pathfinder.
Again the car towed very well. Was my first time towing with a auto, which made me use plenty of fuel on my first trip. I think it was 5km/L.
Overtaking was marginally easier with it having more power. Fuel consumption is worse. Anything between 6 and 8km/L. Depends heavily on the wind direction. Again, the experience was very good.

Towed this Camp Master trailer one Dec.
Trailer didn't give me any trouble. We were 7 people in the car and trailer fully loaded. Fuel consumption was not affected.

With both cars there was never any safety issues with swaying, caravan pushing the car ect. But I prefer the Pathfinder with the better power, but it sucks more juice.

I don't think you can call towing a caravan at 8km/l bad.

If you normally get 12-13km/L, then I think it's bad.

Towing race cars, 1.6tons, 7 metres long. Q7 (and Treg prior to is) towed this with ease, I kept to 100km/h from a safety point as it is quite heavy, long and would be very expensive should it land on its roof. Over 1000hp in the image, most of it on the trailer. Haven't towed it with the X3 yet, it wont be quite as easy as the Q7 as I wont have the same bulk in the tow vehicle

Probably my most memorable towing experience. This was the return trip. The trip to the farm involved a full load of 60 bales that had unfortunately got wet in the rain for a week .... I prefer not to think what the weight was

To give an idea, my fuel consumption sticking to around 80km/h was 25l/100km. This weekend pulling the Echo 5 was 11l/100km

Not my regular towing combination but I towed this over the weekend.

4000 pieces of Rooikrans braai wood.

Towed over a mountain pass and though a hilly area with lots of wind and a temperature of 35 °C returned 7.9 km/l.

I can feel it when I pull off but otherwise too small to affect the handling or fuel economy once cruising, overtaking or braking. But I have never towed anything bigger to compare.

Amazing tow vehicles, the 3.2. Hauls 2500kg on the trailer and 1000kg on the bakkie with a smile. Do prefer the handling of the pre 2016's though, they felt much more stable than the newer ones.

    D2 V8 auto.

When it still had standard sized tires keeping it to 110-120 wasn't a problem.

Now with the 33" muds 100km/h is a nice cruising speed, overtaking takes planning.

Same caravan with D3 V8. 120km/h cruise control, no problems. Very stable, no problem overtaking or stopping the rig. Don't have a picture on my phone

Caravan doesn't swing and both the Discovery combinations are very stable. Disco 2 could do with some bigger brakes for mountain passes.

    D3 V8 around 5.5km/l when towing
    D2 V8 around 4.5km/l when towing.

Just as a comparison ex D3 TDV6 with same caravan averaged 7km/l when towing

And then once in a while you do something stupid. Towed the Disco 2 with my C350 CDI.

The merc has more than enough power and is actually quite stable. Stopping the combination is the problem.
    Never again

Here is our towing combination going into the bush. Without any thick sand stretches, fuel is basically the same with or without the Commander.

    That is around 6km/l.
