I see Zak Brown has thrown his (considerable) weight in behind a possible South African GP. I have always liked him, now I like him much morerer.
I honestly think we are 2/3 years away from a home race. Ain't that something.

Do we have the capacity/capability/facility/finances to host a F1 race?
Honest question - we are so far outside the F1 circus "loop" that it usually does, will it be viable?

I honestly do not know. On the face of it the answer would be - no.
But maybe the FIA / Lewis / Zak / Seb and the rest of the merry crowd feel so "guilty" about shunning us, they will make a plan.
After all, we are the most hardcore , knowledgeable and fanatical petrolhead F1 fan-nation in the World. Just look at this thread..... 👍👍😁😁😁......

Personal opinion, no.
We simply don't have the money for it, discussed earlier in this thread, well upwards of $50 million per year and you have to commit to a couple of years. I think at some point hosting F1 races will become somewhat of a bidding war with the likes of the US, Saudi etc. so then pricing will be driven up even more and F1 will smile all the way.
Plus then there's our government with their greedy little fingers.
Unless it's held in the Cape, a street circuit maybe and the CT local government handles everything, but that's wishful thinking and again, where will the money come from.
Private money also won't work, I don't see how somebody will be able to recoup that.
Imagine a local F1 race with ticket prices starting from R5k, who would be able to go?

I've found a way to watch F1TV via the Xbox. One can use MS Edge, sign into your account and then stream to the TV. It's in full screen and the quality is excellent.
I was at a wedding this weekend, and there was a guy from porsche. Apparently mr Carrey and co has already visited kyalami. He said a race at kyalami is closer than we think, but funding is a major issue.
There only has to be ONE race in SA. I will buy the first tickets. I only need to see a F1 car live once.
I dont understand how we as a country can afford this, but...
