    Default JKU Underbody Rust

    Hi All,

I have been a long time lurker of the forums and soaking up all the info. Swambo and I have finally gotten the opportunity to dip our toes into the 4x4 world after years of dreaming and planning.

I have my eyes on a 2018 JKU with only 30 000 km on it however it is based at the coast and seems to have some rust on the underbody. I would very much appreciate any input on the attached images, is there any cause for concern with this vehicle that I should be aware of?. To my eye it seems mostly like surface rust and should be able to be treated with some rust converter or similar?. Otherwise the vehicle runs perfectly in all other respects.

I really appreciate all the assistance and look forward to finally being able to participate more actively in the forums!.

    Thank you,
    Ashton

Seems pretty normal to me and I live up on the Highveld (JHB)
My 2012 however seems way better than that only because I take care of it from time to time.
I wash my under-carriage from time to time with Prepsol engine cleaner and rinse with hot geyser water. Later on I would give it a coat of Q20 or WD40 and let it sit for a week or two. The 3rd week another prepsol and hot water, let it dry, take off the wheels and spray the chassis with a can of Rust-O-leum Satin black spray. You really only give it a light coat wherever you deem necessary. You can repeat it every 6 months or so whenever you get bored.

Photo no. 2 looks like there is a coolant leak, I will check that out before buying.

Could just be the thermostat housing but have it fixed before you buy.

Thank you but I believe it it was a few drops from the coolant tank cap when it was opened to inspect.
