We thinking of taking the Jimny, i know i have seen yours running around that area.
No issues with that loud fan switching on all the time even when parked at a sighting ?
Can it easliy handle 45 degrees plus heat.

    @Subok, its very very HOT.
You know about the fertiliser spray bottles for mist ?
Those wet towels over your body. Or "sarong's"

Been there in October where we reached temps of 45deg+.

My Jimny gen3 has a m18a in it with a much much bigger copper Core radiator and it ran like a champion.. I kept my eyes on the temps via OdbII app. (this is not possible with the gen4 unfortunately).

I was expecting heatsoak but none of that occurred.
the gen4 k15b is practically the same as the swift 1.4 (k14b). and they do run much cooler than the m-series engines.. even out on the race track never had any issues on the swift with temps.

I don't think there is anything to be concerned about.. perhaps just check the driver and passengers that they don't go to crazy in that heat(or is it maybe to late for that already.. )

Had no hassles with my Gen 3 when temps hit 50C+ a few years ago.
My one camera would not operate at those temps though.

We decided it was too hot for game drives in the afternoon - early morning was fine - and stayed in camp cooled by ice supplies from the store. An Ice machine would have been

Been to the KTP/Mabua three times during December. We love it. It is VERY hot, but we like the heat.

We mostly do a short game drive in the morning, then hang around camp until it gets too hot, game drive during the heat of the day with the aircon on. It is surprising how much one sees in the hottest part of the day.

Just make sure to take in enough fluids.

Not really phased by the heat. Itís uncomfortable for about three days then your body adjusts. My wife is more worried about it as she hasnít travelled as much in that kind of heat. So got the mist spray bottles for her
Im just really looking forward to our trip! Only dissapointment is we couldnít get a Mabua booking but weíre staying at Rooiputs and polentswa and the SA camps as well so a good all round stay. Will just have to do Mabua on its own another time.

Actually no. In that heat the only thing that I can stomach is water. Maybe late afternoon a beer or glass of wine with ice.

We encountered people in Mabua who ran into very serious trouble with dehydration. In fact so serious that they had to pack up immediately and leave.

The mist bottles helps a lot.

I really like December in the Kalahari. Youíve heard all the tips on avoiding the heat, my only departure from that is I donít use the aircon. When itís too hot for me itís definitely too hot for the animals.

Game and bird viewing is excellent, the river beds really come to life around that time.

We are heading to Rooiputs between Christmas and New Year, in our Duster 4x4 towing a Jurgens Oryx.

We've been to KTP twice before in December and once to Richtersveld last December, so we are ready for the heat!

The dry heat is so much more bearable than the humidity in Durban at this time of the year.

Been a few times in December and it has always produced in terms of game viewing and birding.
Really a great time of year!

I do the same as RobH and tend to not use the aircon (your body starts to adjust and gets used to the heat).

Although I won't be on the SA side this December, I will be in Mabua from end of December through to the second week of January.
Hopefully some members will be that side over the same time as us...

Excellent time of the year for game viewing - just watch dehydration.

I was drinking about 5l of water a day plus everything else.

    Ice machine is a must!

The best times the year in the Kalahari is from March to May and from September to end October. March to May is just after the rain season the veld and animals are at best this time of the year.

Were in the Park at the beginning of November this year. We saw temperatures close to 40deg.
