Default What uncapped internet for holidaymakers

What options are available for uncapped internet for a family holiday ? I need a month to month data solution when on holiday for streaming tv etc when on holiday. The data cost for a mainstream cellphone network is not practical. I looked at something like rain but they wont supply data for a once off only it seem.

Rain for uncap and after a month you give notice for a 2 month use.
Not many prepaid cheap offers. Telkom Smart Broadband 20+20GB R199 60+60GB R399 120+120GB R699 looks the best. Bear in mind it only works on Telkom towers and does not roam.

Not being in one spot limits you to cellular and uncapped on cellular is a stretch.

Have a look here from Vodacom:

400GB is not bad and the price not bad either. But hurry, only 17 hours left on the deals...

Best is to buy a "once off" data bundle. No need to get a 24 month contract.

I also go through this process yearly

Before you buy - find out which service provider provides the best coverage in the area - hopefully Rain has strong coverage - https://www.rain.co.za/?gclid=Cj0KCQ...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

    Cell C : 50GB day + 50GB night = R500 - https://www.cellc.co.za/cellc/get-databundles

    Vodacom : 30GB = R699 - https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/sh...a/prepaid-data

    MTN : 50GB - R799 or 100GB -R999 - https://www.mtn.co.za/Pages/Reduced-bundles.aspx

    Two warnings:
    • Beware some of the cheap packages which make the data available at night, or for streaming only.
    • Telkom coverage is very limited, make sure.

in before the comments on why do you need internet streaming on holiday!! Get outside!! Etc etc.

Interesting though, I actually thought Rain would offer something like this. Apparently not.

I got a property in Hartenbos and phone Rain. When I gave my address there they said I'm 120m fro m nearest tower. Thought great, bought sim card and got it activated. Tablet showed no coverage, phoned and asked what's going on. Gave then my address again and was I'm 1200m from nearest tower. So no coverage, cancelled contract and got money back. Still looking for ISP down here, most that come out reckon " no line of sight to tower" so they cant help. Bloody hopeless at the moment. Frogfoot apparently is live in the estate, but no real suppliers to go with. Reason for my post is that Rain doesnt have full coverage in country.

CellC coverage is even much smaller than Telkom coverage. Even in cities.
CellC roaming data speed is measured in bytes per second. Nothing faster.
Rain doesnt even work in big cities like Cape Town and Bellville. Been there. Binned the sim card.
Rain support is even harder to phone than Telkom support!
